If I recall he got fucked because this came out right around the time that pedo Roy Moore was running for Alabama senator. Democratic leadership pressured him to quit because it would give them all the moral high ground over Republicans. His resignation date was the day of or after whoever won as the Alabama senator would have been sworn in, so I’m betting if Moore won, he would have reneged on that. Also if Moore wasn’t running he’d still be a senator.
