Bernie supporters are passionate about their candidate and they’re tired of idiots like John who throw around dumb accusations that Bernie’s a racist, a corporate democrat, just a “white old man”, etc.
John and people like him want you to just take it because standing up for someone they dislike is “harassment”. I’m not a Bernie stan but fuck those shitheads on twitter for lobbing accusations and not being able to handle the discussion when people point out where they’re wrong. Isn't this the same mistake Clinton's fans made last election? They demonized the Bernie supporters until they were fully estranged from the Democratic Party, and decided either to not vote or to even vote for Trump out of spite?

This is the type of shit that alienated a huge chunk of the electorate, and cost Clinton and the Dems 2016. 2018 was NOT the so called "Blue Wave" to take back the government, and they're poised to do the same shit in 2020. Clinton's campaign did it, the DNC did it, and Flu did it. REEEEEEing about policy that matters online does not equate to real life votes, because online is not what most people care about. Flu's leap into "progressive" politics is laughable because no one gives a shit about them, or gives them any real measure of attention, which is what Flu is after.

You know what, I partially agree with John here. There should be some renter protection laws... but at the state level, not federal. The housing market in Georgia is not the same as the market in NY or MA-8, we have multiple levels of government for a reason.
Even when the blind squirrel finds the proverbial nut, he can't figure out where to put it.

Shit, you can devolve this down to the municipal level. NYC landlord/tenant laws are, I think, unique to the city. They certainly ought to be, given the massive amounts of rental properties as compared to the rest of the state.

The UK decided to go this route a few years ago, and the legal burden on landlords has gotten steadily more ridiculous, and so the financial and bullshit burden on tenants has grown likewise. Now it's impossible to rent if you don't have a clean credit score, a shitton of money for legal checks and form-filling, two months' rent up front (at least), references, a job, and a guarantor...and as much money (sometimes more) as you'd spend on a mortgage for the same property. Rental companies have moved in to do a large amount of the annoying legal work for the landlords, taking big cuts of rent for the pleasure and charging tenants extra for their listings, records etc (that shit used to be illegal here, now it's almost half of your first downpayment). Sure, the housing market here has grown, but rents have absolutely exploded and it's all this legal bullcrap rather than house prices that's driving it.
And now there's a booming illegal market in shit housing with shit landlords for poor people who actually need a home and aren't only renting until they've sold their main property to move to an exclusive gated compound in Spain. All those dirty poors now have no legal or safety protection whatsoever, and nowhere to go when it all goes wrong, because they sure as shit aren't affording a legit rented place*.

* not including council/housing association stuff. They're more affordable because they're usually rent controlled for people on welfare, but you need to be a black disabled trans blind lesbian with no legs and come from Kerplakistan to get one.
