Speaking of books, last year there was a book called Bullshit Jobs published that made the argument that capitalism was now in the business of generating a large percentage of jobs that really have no reason to exist and are entirely makework. Often this happens through a process of managerial feudalism, where a job only exists to make the manager who "owns" the employee seem important.

I was just thinking, there can be no purer proof of the thesis than Wu's scampaign. She now has three psuedo-employees who she pays chiefly so that she can seem like a bigshot. I'd give anything to know what the guys who are employed by Wu have to say about their boss. I wonder if she keeps them firewalled so they can't communicate with each other privately to share their experiences? Sadly, they all seem like professional guys so it doesn't seem like any of them will go rogue like Warren and come tell us about what it's like to work for Wu 2020.

I expect them to jump ship between February and June of next year. It's a steady paycheck in the political off season, but it does their career no good to be associated with such an obvious loser campaign. Once the real campaigns start coming online, I think they'll find themselves real positions.

I predicted that she surely wasn't going to run again this time, but now I'm starting to wonder if even a second failure will deter her. Is there any point at which she's going to admit that actually she can't do this?

She kind of set herself up for failure with the whole “my chances the second time skyrocket!” When she loses, badly, she’ll blame gamergate and spend the next 10 years writing her book (it’s literally finished!).

There are two possibilities that could get Wu out of politics:

1. Frank says he's had enough of this shit. Money clearly doesn't mean a lot to him so I figure either he gets bored with it or it begins to negatively affect his image.

2. Brianna finds a new "career" to transition (heh) towards that doesn't look like a step down (and allows him to essentially keep doing whatever he wants). Right now, John needs his political candidacy so he can feel important after failing at everything else. He's not going to go for anything that might interrupt his busy schedule of being a spastic on Twitter, playing Peggle, and hitting Frank's credit limit, so I have no idea what this would be.
