Oh hey, I think I can name another candidate that got way more media coverage than legitimate candidates and that nobody in their constituency gave a shit about....

Of course I'm going to believe this story at face value that implicates a group of murderous rampaging MAGA-hat wearing thugs, the media has never been wrong about this before.

"MAGA country," huh? So this must have happened in like, Texas, or South Carolina, or maybe (gasp) Mississippi?

[googles]
Actor/singer Jussie Smollett, best known for his portrayal of musician Jamal Lyon on the Fox series “Empire,” has been the victim of an apparent hate crime in Chicago
Huh. Assuming such an assault even took place, can anyone tell me what manner of Chicago wildlife is typically known for hatin' on da gays? Anyone see another LaPorsha Washington case on the horizon?

Yes the government should take it over!

Serious question: How would you even "break up" Facebook? I guess you could tear off WhatsApp and Oculus and whatever other side-projects, but their core social media datamining is pretty monolithic. Maybe tear off their ability to sell their own ads or something? How much difference would that even make?

And to address Wu's idiocy: no matter how you break it up, SOMEONE's going to have access to the data and friends lists, and how are they going to make money and survive as a profitable business if it's not from selling the data or ads based off the data? Fucking "Facebook Premium?" L oh fucking L.

I know I say this every time, and it probably gets boring but... Where's the FEC report, John? Seriously, every fucking time she leaves it until the last minute, and every fucking time it's wrong in an interesting new way and she wastes her time and the FEC's by having to file corrections. It's amazing the FEC hasn't levied any fines against Wu out of sheer spite because she's so incompetent, they're definitely entitled to do it. She's had a month. How hard would it have been to set aside a few hours one weekend to get the thing done and dusted.. or, hey, even hire an accountant and just pass the raw data off to that guy and make him do the drudge work. What's Wu's major malfunction?

Also Re: breaking up facebook, it'd be pointless unless it was accompanied by new data protection laws. I always get frustrated by the EU's efforts to address the problem. Their heart is clearly in the right place, they've identified the problem OK, but the solution is always unsubtly wrong in some way, possibly because lobbyists have got their beaks in to mix between proposal and legislation finally happening. We've had two rounds where they've added new, more annoying UI to every website, when the solution is either to have some central mechanism to express your preferences, or just to ban tracking altogether because nobody actually wants to be tracked if they're given a choice.

Possibly it would look something like the AT&T break up into the Bells; break the user base into geographical location and force the "Baby Books" to pay each other for access and services, allowing competitors access to the network. (This would be a complete fucking nightmare of course)

A (slighty) less retarded approach would be, like you said, forcing Facebook to divest their advertising branch into a separate company or companies, and make facebook sell this new entity Ad network access, which would allow other companies an oportunity to compete. Data mining would be similar, but that's how you wound up with the Cambridge PR disaster.

The ad network thing would make a huge difference, just probably not the one intended. Dealing with other entities would force exposure of what Facebook is collecting and how its using that to target Ads. We already know some of that, but this would throw the curtains wide open. This would possibly lead to a huge public freak out and an abandonment of facebook.

LOL, that guy who streamed Streetfighter with Wu did a podcast type interview with her.

He actually asks her some shallow technical questions about game development, and wow... she spends like 5 minutes just spluttering random words in response to a question about the difficulties of developing for multiple CPU architectures. It's 100% clear she hasn't got the slightest clue what difference the CPU arch actually makes.

Also in hilarious news, Wu was apparently invited to be a guest on the Hbomberguy donkey kong stream. She claims there was a miscommunication and she didn't get the message. I'm not entirely sure whether to interpret that as she didn't bother to read her email or whether she got the email but decided that a charity stream that benefited troons was a bit too close to home to be worth the risk, just in case someone didn't get the ixnay on the anstray message.

"If you allowed anyone access to the data and friend lists, it would be a privacy disaster."

I'm not really inclined to conspiracy theory, but it's naive to think that the alphabet agencies haven't already covertly accessed that data and happily romped through it. Given John's belief that the Federal Government is our only hope for utopia, I wonder if he's given that any thought. Ha, just kidding.

Off-topic for Wu, but Chicago native Tim Pool presses X.

"When I put software on the App Store," like that's a regular occurrence or something :story:

Nah. A lot of Chelsea's buttbuddies were in that stream (I thinks she was also in it too, but not 100% sure), so there was no way that Wu was getting an invite. Johnny got assblasted that he didn't get to bask in hbomberguy's 15 seconds of e-fame. Hence he made up the old lame excuse of "Yeah, I was totally invited but I guess it got lost in the mail!"

Stop catcalling @RepStephenLynch John (archive)

She’s hired Paul Casali, a New York-based consultant, as her press secretary — a departure from her 2018 campaign, which lacked a chief spokesperson and operated with skeletal staffing — and is already soliciting campaign donations through ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s online fundraising portal.

Nice.

So I guess all "press inquiries" should be directed to FUCKING WHITE MALE @paulcasali. I bet he hates frozen dogs.

Huh, no mention of Brianna in his outdated bio. Her political consultant hasnt even updated his Twitter with her info? Guess he's not really involved, just took John's cash and ran.

I note that Brianna "normal mode is for people who don't have jobs" Wu has spent every day this week playing Resident Evil. Not for a couple of hours at the end of the day mind you, right in the middle of the day and possibly for up to 12 hours continuously.

I wonder if the lies ever grate on her conscience. She's collecting money from suckers who believe the pitch that she's out there working 24 hours a day on her oh-so-important campaign to replace a respected Democrat with a crazy attention seeker. Wouldn't you feel guilty about that kind of shit, especially if you didn't even need the money?

Does Wu purchase insurance on the Obamacare Market? Oh right Wu has long piggybacked off Frank’s employer driven plan, and the massive costs Wu is able to run up on it with low deductibles.
