I took a look at the MBTA’s trip planner. Turns out the purple line is the commuter rail. For commuters. Not the same as the red line, which is part of the T and runs more frequently.

In the US, commuter trains are utilitarian. Some run only a few times per day, mostly serving as a way get people to and from work.

Brianna doesn’t live next to what is supposed to be speedy public transport. She lives way out next to a slow line used to get normal people to normal jobs.
