Does WaPo publish on Monday (and Labor Day)? I know they do on Sundays. The story was dated for yesterday, so, depending on their print schedule and other such factors, it's possible the article exists in print without the correction, which is kind of funny.

It's not that - any lefty journalist would be perfectly on-board with saying "trans women are women". I think it's a combination of John not quiiiiite wanting to burn his trump card and publicly disavow being trans, and a lot of alternative phrasings having uncomfortable implications.
Simply saying "She is not transgender" was probably shot down by John.
Something like "A previous version of this article said she is transgender when in fact she is a woman" would be like implying trans women aren't true and honest women *clutches pearls*
Just saying something like "We retract this statement" would leave the readers asking why, and possibly finding inconvenient truths online.
Disappearing the comment without notification would be shot down by the editors, as well as making the paper look like Fake News when people pull out the archives.
So, we ended up with the silly "identifies as a woman" phrasing as the only canidate left standing that sufficiently papers over John's lie and doesn't trample progressive pieties.

Now imagine all this being hashed out in FRANTIC ALL CAPS DMS from Wu Campaign HQ :lol:

EDIT: you know, there's one more dodge they could have used, but didn't think of.

"A previous version of this article referred to 'transgender video game designer Brianna Wu'. This should have read 'Brianna Wu, designer of transgender video games'. We apologize for any confusion this caused."

She has to run again. This is a person who craves attention. And no one is giving the time of day to a housewife. The entire point of the campaign was that she could use it to get attention and brag about "running for Congress".

And don't forget that this has been a decent grift. They bought a ton of stuff on Amazon. Got some furniture from Ikea. She also got a few all-expense paid trips out to California.

The 2020 campaign will be a dud because she'll likely receive little media attention since it's a Presidential election year. But a few weirdos will give her money and let her play candidate on Twitter so the laughs will continue for us.
 
This has been a great Johnny Wu day so far. The election loss is going to be a wonderful thing to see. I can't wait to see what excuses we'll get to see!

The best part is that no would have even noticed this outside of veteran Wu-watchers, but now it pops because of the "clarification". What is 'Streisand Effect', John?

You hit the nail on the head. Johnny has the mindset of a child when it comes to everything he does. He thinks he'll excel at whatever new project he does (without actually knowing anything about it or attempting to learn about it) and that everything will go his way. He has this idea already made up in his mind that it will be the bestest thing ever and people will line up to kiss his feet.

Then reality sets in, and Johnny realizes that making things actually takes work - that things don't just magically appear because you wish it so. Then the bloom falls off the rose and Wu eventually puts less and less time and effort into it, making occasional statements claiming that he's still at it, all while sitting on his ass Tweeting and playing Peggle. In the end, it becomes yet another thing that collects dust in the Wu household. As you mentioned, the only time anything gets finished is because Frank is pushing John to fulfill his promises. If it weren't for the fact that he was getting media attention, Wu would be staying home playing Street Fighter V against the CPU on the lowest setting instead of going door to door in his Porsche.

How long until the Troon Pride contingent turns on John for not being proud of his axe wound? It's obvious John is a transphobe that is ashamed of turning his hot dog inside out and wants to be a real girl, like when Pinocchio chopped off his nose.

This is why I laugh every time he calls himself an engineer. One of the oft-repeated golden rules of engineering is: Before you can climb the mountain, you must first know the elevation of the mountain.

John, by contrast, just looks at something and says, "Oh, that's cool. I can do that!" And then proceeds to get in over his head immediately, without a viable exit strategy and without taking advice from those with experience. So of course he fails miserably, repeatedly, from software development to working on automobiles to political campaigns. Wash, rinse, repeat.
 
After watching John's asshole clench even so briefly over his most precious lie being threatened, I have to wonder if he realizes even with this backhanded retraction (which is effectively meaningless, it still says the same thing it did before), that means his Wikipedia article is now in greater danger of later gaining enough reputable sources that even the most determined whitewasher can't do shit to keep his house of cards together.

like I said, this whole thing will have a lot of repurcussions for wu's whole shtick, the kind we've only dreamed about until now.

Four years ago, people would never believe, Bribri would have to publically come to terms with being known as a transgender or her wikipedia article being much more accurate

I don't think there will be much sperging. She seems to realize that he's going to clobber her tomorrow. We're already seeing the excuse of "this was just a trial run" being thrown out. Will probably just hear about how she learned so much and that her measly vote count is a sign the district needs a new voice.

Kind of curious to see what she does for the months between the primary and general. Pretend to still be a candidate?
