The photos they chose -- or maybe they were the only photos they could get -- make John look a damned fool, and the text pretty much confirms it. You can distill the whole piece down to: This person hasn't a clue what they're doing, nor do they have any concrete ideas for the political change they're promising, nor do they know how to play well with the others that they need in order to be effective in politics. In fact, they're staggeringly inept and incapable of leading a campaign team.

There is no there there. Just John bumbling through life, thinking that being seen in a Porsche and lying about being an "engineer" is enough to get him coronated. The photo of him standing in the entryway with the woman and her daughter says it all -- mom and daughter both look uncomfortable with this weirdo in their house, and mom has her arms crossed. "How do we get this crazy out of our house?" is the likeliest caption that comes to mind.

This is comedy gold, right here.

Wu is featured in a New York Times article today about harassment women face when running for office. Predictably, Wu is the odd one out, being not-really-a-woman, not actually receiving very much harassment and not even really running for office in any meaningful way. The video has her reading an email from a "Tom" which you have to concede the bloke has a fair point, her hair is always dishevelled and her glasses are scary. Here's a downloadable copy of the video in case anyone cares.

The real highlight of the piece is this photo though.

I guess it must have been taken during the abortive canvassing photoshoot. Wu is posed as if to say "Can you see my dignity? Where did it go?" and she's completely unprepared to actually do any canvassing. Bonus points for anyone who finds on google maps exactly how far that was taken from her house. Pretty sure that's somewhere on her street. (Edit: Also those Dutch flag pin badges she had made. Hilarious.)
He looks like he’s waiting for the bus.

He looks like he's posing for a photo spread titled "Armpits of the Candidates."

ETA: The Globe's photographer has chosen to shoot John in several very awkward and unflattering poses for this piece. Professional photographers do not do this by accident. Either John did something to piss the photographer off -- a little mansplaining about how to operate a DSLR wouldn't surprise me -- or the photographer showed up, took one look at the Hulking Horror, and decided to make it very clear to The Globe's readers that the brave female candidate is a balding, running-to-fat, transgender giant. The Globe's love affair with John may be over. At the very least, he'll be a joke in the newsroom.

I really can't remember it right now, but didn't Warren touch base on Wu participating in unflattering photos against other people's advice?

The man needs to invest in a wig or toupee for the next scampaign. That hairline isn't going to hold up by 2020

This is such a strange article. It jumps through the usual hoops of blah blah muh soggy knees, muh vidya blah blah but I definitely do not feel that it casts John in a positive light. It makes him look pretty damn fucking incompetent, though I'm wondering if I'm filtering that through my own brain which KNOWS that John is damn fucking incompetent.

It’s not just you. This is just about as condescing as a reporter can be and still get a fact-based piece published. Based on the overall tone, I wouldn’t be surprised if the original was a lot harsher and then toned down some by an editor.

That article isn't a hit piece but it really hints at the real story between the lines. It does a good job of painting Wu as utterly incompetent. I can't fucking believe she's driving around in that stupid Porsche trying to get blue-collar votes.

But the best line?
Wu would be the first to acknowledge that her life skills — engineering, fixing cars, hyper-focusing on tiny problems — are not typical prized political attributes.

“If there’s a zombie apocalypse, Brianna Wu is the one you want on your team,” she joked.
she joked, indeed.

LOL.

All the slow claps for Wu missing out on about a million articles worth of free publicity because of her insistence that no one must ever know she isn't a TRUE and HONEST woman.

The best part is how specific the other candidate is; she's not just the first transgender congressional candidate. Not just the first one in MA. She's the first openly transgender candidate in MA. So specific it's like she was subtly pointing out someone else...

To be precise: you were pretending to be shipping software in 2016, much like how you're pretending to be running for office now.

"Shipping software" in 2016; announced her candidacy before the inauguration; couldn't figure out how to run for office in all that time. But Trump's the idiot.

How much do you suppose Wu actually believes this, that the fault in her campaign is not that she was lazy as fuck and did nothing for two years, but that she was still "figuring out how to run"?

If she really does become perpetual candidate Wu, I really don't see her correcting the errors she made. She's still going to be lazy, relying on this fantasy that she can hire minions to conduct the whole campaign. It's going to be even worse than last time, because nobody who signed up to be a volunteer is going to sign up again after being ignored this cycle.
