I wonder if John told Frank that line about the car being "an investment that will be highly sought by collector's in 20 years" or if Frank is just a tard and bought the car without needing any convincing.
Frank loves toys just as much as John does. Remember, he bought a hopped-up Dodge Challenger all on his own in addition to all those Porsches.

The Wu's are living the life of a thousandaire. Driving a $90k car while renting a $100k house.

For the price of the down payment Frank put on his husband's car they could have put a down payment on a house similar to the one they are renting. I don't know about District 8 in MA but where I live they could have gotten a typical starter home, 1/4 acre 3 bedroom/1 bath house, at auction/foreclosure for the price of that car. Frank is like in his 50s and John is 40 and they would rather buy a car that John will park outside and ruin in a few months instead of buying a house and building some equity.

Just shows that Frank and his husband are both idiots with poor decision making skills and no ability to properly manage Frank's money. I wonder if John told Frank that line about the car being "an investment that will be highly sought by collector's in 20 years" or if Frank is just a tard and bought the car without needing any convincing. That car will be worth nothing in a couple months when John totals it, tries to "upgrade" it or otherwise destroys it and send it to the memory hole with the TT, the dogs and his other discarded toys.
Not to mention John/Brianna’s trying to rationalize the Porsche. “It will be a collecotr’s item when Porsche goes electric” or with his constant comparison on options between what he bought and passed on. He’s doing the classic thing people do when they go into debt or spend too much on something.

My mom's co-worker's husband had a brief moment like that after losing his job - except for some reason he thought he could get value out of some old utility office chairs which weren't worth more than $75 when new. Thankfully, he came out of it around the same time I was looking for some servicable chairs for my hobby worktable and personal computer desk. His wife basically made him give me the chairs and he seemed happy to be rid of them.

But for Flu, we're not talking some chairs you can get at Office Depot. They're going for Porches like it's the newest hip thing. I guarantee that if Flu thought owning crocodiles would be their big ticket to fame, they'd move to Florida and open an alligator farm without any clue about what they were doing. And then rationalize selling the crocodiles down the road as being an investment because of how valuable they are or something - without ever realizing that aligators and crocodiles are two completely different creatures.

Frank's Challenger was only $30k, downright frugal for a man with his income. For what he's spent on John's multiple porsches and rebuilding the shitbox audi he could buy four more challengers and drive a different one to work each day.

It's Hollywood magic!

How about the part about a District 8 town wracked by the opioid crisis, could that have any basis in reality?

It's an issue everywhere but I can't think of any towns that are literally being "bankrupted." Brockton is probably the closest to what she's talking about, but it's the 7th largest city in MA so calling it a "smaller town" is stupid. Brockton's also always been known for its drug problem. Saying that the only idea the Democrats have is "tax credit for job retraining" is idiotic: a lot of money and effort have gone into Massachusetts' depressed industrial cities, and Patrick's big thing was improved transportation which Wu has magically lifted. The whole tweet group is just fucking dumb, and nobody ever calls her out.

When I read about the new Porsche, I start to wonder if John is not blackmailing Frank. Maybe Frank has some skeletons in his closet, and that's how John is able to "convince" him to buy him a new car??? I can't believe that someone capable of six figure income can be so stupid in practical sense.

And what is your solution, John? Should every school run its own locked-down intranet accessible only on computers built in-house?

Of course Wu knows the difference between them. The latter taught him how to fake tears for the camera, and the former are the ones that hide in his bushes, ready to murder him and Frank.

Oh for fucks sake.

Swift playground is an application designed for tweens, it's not a serious classroom aid for teaching programming. It might take the place Logo used to occupy back in the 80s when I was in primary school (I think yanks say middle school), but when kids are older and taking actual classes on programming they're going to actually be writing full programs.

This is fanboyism to the nth degree, with the kicker that she "wants to work with Apple" to get in fucking schools in her fantasy congressional career. Maybe you should have run for your local school board, Wu. You might have a tiny chance of being elected.

The thought of Brianna Wu on a school board might actually be more horrifying than the thought of her in Congress.

I love the implications of this. Brianna, who is not a teacher nor has kids, downloaded a coding app meant for 8-12 year olds and thought it was “freaking amazing”. I’m assuming this was part of the curriculum when getting that engineering degree at Wuniversity.

I suppose some of the features of Swift Playground are beyond the grasp of our godzilla of tech, and that's one of the reasons he thinks it's so amazing.

So what I'm gathering is that being a Congressman is pretty much the same as being Kim Jong-il. You go around and tour random businesses and government offices, give "management suggestions", and get hailed as a genius.
I think it tends to work better when the secret police is on standby to "disappear" anyone who doesn't write the suggestions down enthusiastically enough.

Wu just shouldn't be allowed near schools, it's a bad idea, not because he's a sexual predator or anything like that, but the worst case scenario is that he tries to show off to the kids by drifting his Porsche and splattering a bunch of them. Best case scenario is him getting derailed into endless pissing matches with 3rd graders over which video game console is the best.

Buying much more expensive laptops for schools is pointless, cheap and replaceable is the way to go but Brianna "heh, they don't have the latest Pentium" Wu will never figure that out. Programming is also easier and more accessible than ever so I don't know what his point is, why even bring up some Apple shit? At this point in time learning programming is completely free, you don't have to spend a nickel if you have a computer of some kind.
