Well, John decided that he wanted a CDN the same way he makes any other business decision:

Does it costs money?
How much does the most expensive package cost?
Which family member will pay for it?

From what I understand, Akamai takes a copy of your website and puts it on their local servers. Like an automated copy and paste to servers closer to where you're browsing.

Akamai has a bazillion settings but usually you have to request content before it's cached to a more local location.
 
While it's the CDN that's giving the first line error, I'm sure the root cause is that Wu just didn't renew her squarespace account.

One highly specialised plant of under 250 workers is potentially losing half its staff. due to the fact it's ultra-high grade steel is not finding the customers it needed. Mostly because it ultra-specialised and said grade of steel is used in bridges and military vehicles. Both of which are rather scant still in the US at present.

To me this would suggest the plant should be more realistically looking at less higher grades needed for other uses and is somewhat endemic of what happened to the UK industries 40 years ago. Refusal to adapt, refusal to find new customers or markets leading to industries dying off by their droves, the refusal of numerous shioyards refusing to relocate to the coasts nearly killed the ship building industry of the Clyde, with what remains now focusing on far smaller vessels as all freighters are now built elsewhere.
 
It amazes me how quickly she’ll switch from “it’s important to listen to everyone and not attack one another” to “all Republicans are dirty filthy racists!” to “I want anyone to come to my future office in DC and play arcade games, Dems and Reps!” and so on.
