It's really kind of amazing that John never gets tired of coming up with the dumbest fucking things to say all day long.

While that's not wrong per se, there are some idiots who think the Left Behind books were a documentary of the future, that isn't the only reason.

A lot of Christians support Israel in a more generic sense because of the whole "God's chosen people" thing, a meme that long predates that nonsense Flynt is claiming.

You're already giving John too much credit, it's just his usual fedora tipping and shitting on conservative Christians, painting them with the same brush because that's all John is capable of doing. Case in point:

So how long til noodz drop? I bet his delicious fucksocket looks like a blind exceptional individual stitched the whole deli section together.
He's lying on the moon right now, spidery legs open, popping moonrocks out his artificial penispleaser at the world that spurned him like a pingpong-playing spastic stripper. We should have listened. His fury shall rain upon the bigoted earth until nothing is left.

This is a strange statement, at least to me. I spent most of my youth involved in the Catholic church, which has ruled the roost in the northeast for over a century, and I've never really heard of anyone being directed to them for help with anything other than grief counseling. The poor, substance abuse, homelessness, domestic violence, mental illness - all referred to local, state or private entities.

I worked in the south for only a year. Have some family down there. Two southern friends. Overall, not a huge exposure, but more than most Yankees. All of that stuff above gets referred to the church first. Clothes for kids. Money for rent. Help with booze and drugs. And those neighbors go out for fucking church - donating money, giving time and professional services, getting the word out that help is available.

I have no idea what John is talking about. At all.

Premillennial dispensationalists are a small portion of Israel-supporting Christians. Their numbers probably took a hit when yet another millennium came and went without any Raptures.

Pretending that most American Christians who support Israel are salivating at the prospect of the Apocalypse is very John, and therefore very stupid.

I live in the south in a semi-rural county of around 85k. I work closely with what is a disproportionately poor and uneducated group of people with a much higher rate of mental illness to boot (parole officer with a focus on sex offenders). As part of my job I interact with local treatment providers and counselors very heavily. They're all worthless at anything other than fulfilling paperwork requirements that this guy took X worthless class or submitted to Y treatment facility as required by law. Oh, you can't get to the mental health provider three times a week for your scheduled meetings and if you're discharged you'll go back to court? Well, the providers would say that's too bad, but it's a local church that's offering to bus a bunch of folks to and from the place at no charge.

We don't have a homeless shelter here. Guess who I look to first when someone gets kicked out of his apartment and is desperately searching for somewhere to stay so they can at least charge their ankle monitor and not get shanked on the streets? A local church. Because they'll front some loser who has nowhere else to go a hundred bucks to put him up in some motel 8 for a few nights. Not even a congregation member, mind you. They just put the money where it helps.

Guess who I call when I get a call from somebody that their literally insane ex-convict neighbor is knocking on the door, asking to borrow money because he has no food and literally hasn't eaten anything for two days (funny story, the guy had used his entire $150 food stamp benefit for the month to buy pineapples. Just pineapples. He had filled his bathtub with them but was convinced that they were poisoned)? A church, because guess who actually runs all the soup kitchens here?

Guess who runs the warming centers when it gets cold and all the poor people living in shanties and old trailers without functional heat need somewhere to go when they lose power or their dinky little $40 space heater gives up the ghost? It's a church.

Guess who sponsors the local youth centers and basketball courts so people can at least have something to do for free? Well, they're almost all in or attached to churches.

You see where I'm going with this?

Even moreso the churches from wealthier areas are the ones sponsoring most of the outreach. It might trickle down into the poorer towns or churches as a joint effort, but it's typically your nicer churches (both big and small) putting up money for that.

(Not so much the black churches but I've long since been convinced that those are more a social function that a spiritual one in general anyway...)

In areas that are not large enough to support their own homeless shelters or whatever, it's the churches that step up to bat. In most of rural America, where poverty can reach obscene levels and lack of opportunity means there is no real feasible way out, the only means of outreach is a church.

And you know what, there are a lot worse places poor, crazy, or otherwise idle people could be than a church.

I mean he could go to the mid-east and see how Orthodox Christians celebrate their faith, but they'd probably throw him off the roof of a building too.
