I can't say for certain since I'm not the one who tried, but my friends tried donating to Wu's campaign as sort of a gag gift/prank and a majority of the links supplied by Brianna herself outright didn't work or wouldn't accept payments. At the end they outright gave up trying to find a working link. A difficult to navigate donation page is potentially one of the reasons why her fundraising is relatively stagnant.

Yeah, the “Donate” link on her website is broken. The new link is one she spams on her Twitter. But I’m sure the website will get the correct led link at the same time Rev60 gets a patch.

John doesn't understand there are reasons this kind of shit hasn't been done already. Sure, I could easily deal with this stuff, but I've used crypto for the last 30 years and public key for the last 25 since the original PGP. Ordinary people, and especially poor or uneducated people, have barely grasped PINs yet. You think they're going to get public key encryption?

This would disproportionately confuse and disadvantage the poorer and less educated.

Now, John may not care about these people, but no bank is going to be the first to do this kind of thing if it causes any degree of confusion and chaos and, as a result, disadvantages them in the marketplace.

It's the constant obsession with "tech" solutions to everything that makes me want to call this guy a fool to his face.

I get Wu likes computers and think digital solutions to most problems are fine and dandy. In this day and age, that sounds practical for a lot of problems, but his hubris has allowed him ignore a fatal flaw in this particular idea.

If the computer shits the bed, the person in meatspace is FUCKED if there is no solution that can be done IRL, and this putting SSN shit behind a computer key would mean everyone needing to use that information or gain access to it would be up shit creek with no paddle if the power goes out or the computers melt down.

To explain, certificate revocation is a co-operative, trust based process. You have a key pair that may have been compromised, or you simply no longer used and you publish a certificate revocation notice signed by the issuer. The idea is that someone who might want to trust the certificate will check with revocation list the certificate specifies to see whether the certificate is still to be trusted or not.

None of this is of any fucking use whatsoever if bad actors are involved. I'm not sure how this process is supposed to work in any sense. Does she imagine that your account is going to be write-only for the bank or whatever, so transactions get encrypted with your public key and only you can read them? It's bullshit all the way down.

My grandparents are in their mid 80's, they are just barely able to log on to their "Gram & Grampa" FB page, much less use a system like Flu suggests. They're legit terrified of using their debit cards because of all the hoopla over hackers being able to steal their identities like they saw on the news, etc. These are the people who still write checks at the super market, I have zero faith that they would be able to do anything with a computerized SS system. And, they vote. Every fucking election, special, primary, whatever, they and all their senior citizen friends vote. These are the people you'd have to convince to vote for you while campaigning about changing their social security.

Also it would at the very least have to have the encrypted version of the private key on it. Also "unchangeable EPROM" is an oxymoron, since an EPROM is eraseable by definition (what does John think the "E" stands for). So the proper equipment could always get the encrypted private key. And a compromised keypad could always get the passphrase for that private key. It just adds another step to the usual way current bank cards are compromised.

If I wanted to create a crytosystem, then I've got a solid grasp of all the issues but I'd still want to get it peer reviewed by a couple of other people before implementing it.
