Okay yeah but the thing is that you have no principles, John.

I thought that outright buying signatures was illegal.
I believe that earlier on someone did the math and figured out that it's highly unlikely that the conventional route (hiring people to go out and get signatures the legitimate way) will work.

Short answer: It is
Long answer: It is so you have to play with the rules so that it isn't.
What you do is you hire a political consulting company. They send people around to get signatures: Events, nursing homes, anywhere there are people who will sign. These companies usually offer some sort of small prize at their booth: Candy, key chains, T-shirts if you're desperate. The high-priced really successful ones have a separate list of signatories they groom; you sign whatever they put in front of you, and you get some amazon giftcards in the mail once or twice a month. You aren't being PAID, everyone on this rainmaker list gets these giftcards as a 'thank you' for helping democracy or w/e, but if you don't sign, your name gets removed from the rainmaker list and the giftcards stop.
Sometimes even if you sign you'll get dropped from the list for a month or two, then added back in. This makes it almost impossible for anyone dropped because they don't sign to be able to prove they were dropped because they didn't sign, it also keeps the lists of signatures from containing the same names every time.
They are helping you opponent today, but you might need them tomorrow, so no one in power has any interest in going after Enough Signatures To Get Your Measure on The Ballot, LLC

:offtopic: Counterpoint, it succeeded in doing what it set out to do, which was get gay smut nominated for the Hugo awards. Its not their fault the wrong lessons were learned afterwards.

Some pretty good gay smut has won Hugos before even back when there were standards. Look about half of any of Samuel R. Delany's Nebula and Hugo wins.

Perhaps putting a live total on the donate page wasn't the best idea:

It just highlights how few people give a crap about Wu for congress.
I happen to know that two of those were 100 dollar donations, since they were the 2nd and 3rd donors who gave.

Edit:
A question occurs... why does Wu keep doing the same thing and expecting different results?
insanity and :autism:
She knows from past experience she can't raise 15K from appeals to her mailing list and twitter. She's ticking along at about 5000 a quarter from that sort of fundraising. Even given that the whole thing is a scam just so Wu doesn't have to work, why doesn't she actually try something different to reach out to a larger audience?

Simply put?
Because she can't.
There are rules to being a good scam artist. You need to be gregarious, outgoing, have a good sense of character, and know when to get out.
Above all, you need to project the image that wherever you and and whoever you're talking to, you belong there, and you're their kind of people.

Wu is a one trick pony. She's too vain to blend in well, and she's fallen into the classic trap of buying her own bullshit. She's doing the "Help me save the world with tech feminism" bit again because that is literally her only play.
It's sad, but the Gamergate thing was really her only moment of note in life, and she's trying (far too late) to ply that into something bigger like the others. She's too old and too dim to adapt or try anything new, and she sees the other "victims" moving on to new things, so she's scrabbling for relevance.

I pity it, in a way. Hers is a life with the guarantee that her defining moment is behind her, and she didn't do much with it.

An interesting thing apparently happened earlier this month. Wu went back and filed amendments to every single single FEC report she's filed so far.

The bottom line appears to be that she has raised less and spent more than previously accounted for. I'm not even sure how this sort of mistake is possible, since the cash on hand column ought to align perfectly with the figure on your bank statement for the end of the given month, if it doesn't you've made an accounting error somewhere.

I'll try to look in to what has changed for each report.

Well if it's not an error, it seems to imply the Wus started dipping into their own money to fund the campaign, which means this is an incredibly amateurish attempt at fraud or John Flynt is the only man so exceptional that his scam to bilk people into giving him campaign funds to spend on vidya and Porsches and other crap ends up costing him money.

I guess the amendments slightly confused the FEC's running totals for the election cycle, she actually raised exactly 100 dollars more than previously recorded, a donation from Frank.

In April she failed to record bank charges and payments to Sage Payment solutions to the tune of almost 1000 dollars.
In July she failed to record payments to Amazon attributed to "equipment for video production" (LOL) amounting to almost 500 dollars.

That means that at the end of September, she only had 4200 bucks on hand all told. And she's still got to either pay for the Star Wars event or refund the few donors, which I think was the majority of the 3rd quarter donations (and her office rent.)

Edit: Wait, it isn't the FEC that screwed up. It's the new October quarterly. It erroneously lists an "election cycle to date" total money raised that is less than the July quarterly. Guess they'll have to file a third amendment now. :story:

He couldn't be trying to cover up skimming money out for himself, could he?

"Dammit John! I'm a doctor(ish), not an accountant!"

New campaign email. you can taste the desperation.
Instead of shopping on Black Friday, contribute to a fist time candidate.

** This Black Friday, don't shop. Help save America instead.
------------------------------------------------------------

Ever wonder how a candidate gets their name on a ballot? Turns out, it takes a lot of work. You need several thousand signatures of voters. My campaign is setting up events to get them, and tell voters about our message. But I can't do it without your help.

We need to raise $15,000 to pay for petitioners, vendors and legal fees. Can I count on you to help?

** It's time for a real Democrat to represent Massachusetts
------------------------------------------------------------

Stephen Lynch is not a Democrat. He's a Republican in a cheaper suit. This is a man that voted against Obamacare. This is a man that has spent a career fighting women's rights. This is a man that called gun safety legislation on assault weapons a "feel good measure." This is a man that entered politics to deny LGBT Americans civil rights.

The $15,000 will get us to the next phase of our campaign, with campaign events in Dedham, Walpole, Jamaica Plain and Stoughton.

** Stephen Lynch doesn't care about you
------------------------------------------------------------

Unlike Lynch, my campaign doesn't take donations from corporations and billionaires because we don't represent them. We're fighting for you, but we can't do it without your help.

The 2018 election is about trust and integrity. The status quo in congress can't fix the damage caused by the Trump administration - so we need to elect leaders that can.
Help us now! (https://secure.actblue.com/donate/briannaontheballot)

** One last thing
------------------------------------------------------------

This campaign isn't about me, it's about you. One of the best things about running for office is having people tell me their stories. I want to know what you need but you're not getting.

I'm always eager to hear from supporters and learn what issues matter to you. I would love to chat with you. Send me an email at brianna@briannawu2018.com or shoot me a message on Twitter @spacekatgal.

Everyone knows he'd take Soros shekels in a heartbeat if he could get them, he just plain old doesn't get any donations. He forgot to mention that he doesn't represent the members of the 8th District either.
