Edit: For the record, the comic isn't meant to be accurate. It's hyperbole to make a point. I posted it more as a response to Brianna's attitude of: Republicans never compromise. Both sides have compromised and together could probably reach a fairly agreeable middle point, were it not for idiots like Brianna who like to through wrenches into the works.
I don't like that comic at all. In many ways, state level laws were much more restrictive in the past than they are today, since many Southern states had restrictive permit laws aimed at stopping black people from buying or carrying guns which date from the 19th century. New York's Sullivan act, enforcing their restrictive permit system for buying and carrying pistols, dates from 1911. Concealed carry was rare until the 1990s.

Chicago had a total ban on handguns from 1982 to 2010, when it was ruled unconstitutional. No jurisdiction in the US has such a ban today. The fact that the Supreme Court twice confirmed that the Second Amendment is an individual right in 2008 and 2010 means that the right to bear arms is much stronger today than it once was.
