I'd bet good money that gaming communities around Counter-Strike, Quake Arena, Starcraft, Street Fighter, Everquest already had plenty of toxic elements both online and offline long before 2005-2006. Didn't own an Xbox, so maybe everything got much worse there, but I doubt it.

People like Wu are somehow like the slime from Ghostbusters II. They feed of people being jerks to each other, become more and more vile and make people they get in contact with aggressive.
 
Sexual harassment against women is endemic in journalism, therefore we should put more women in the field so they can get raped.

It’s refreshing and amazing that John flynt aka Brianna Wu has experienced so many different careers and can warn us about all these sexist pigs in every industry.

I really like how his logic is, on,y men can sexually harass so we need more women. Yet plenty of women have sexually harassed and assaulted their employees (and students).
 
With all the stuff coming out about the most vocal male feminists, it kind of makes sense for Brianna to be like this. If we're to believe his past claims, he's also guilty of sex offenses.

The continuation of that conversation on twitter only get better. Wu wants his wiki edited to include "emotional terrorism" from this 2015 article. Maybe his wiki can say how he thinks the article about "emotional terrorism is one of the best things written"

This isn't about GamerGate, though. It's about very real, very violent, very antisocial behavior.
Wu's a firebrand about gender equality in tech. Before and after her talk at AltConf, she attracted literally dozens of death threats, including threats from people who make no attempt to disguise their real-life identity. Wu counts 46 death threats sent to her just in the last five months alone. Wu has reported the threats to police but says precious little has been done to investigate them.

From vague dozens of death threats in one sentence to exactly 46 threats that all were reported to the police. At this point it is more likely to find a comment that is a lie/contradiction of another comment then it is to find a true statement.

Someone who's reporting 46 death threats, who has no significant national profile, is either a liar or mentally ill. Why people don't acknowledge this is beyond me.

Playing Counter-Strike nets you a bunch of death threats, or it used to at least, so that's a place to farm threats.

Some time ago a friend asked me if I'd ever gotten threats online and it took some time to sort through my memory of ordinary 'im gonna kill u and rape ur mom' to realize that the most genuinely angry and vicious people I've encountered was on a gardening forum. I've heard that pet-forums are an acid bath as well.

You guys both make good points. Let me expand what I said before: anyone claiming that many credible death threats is a liar or a lunatic.

Now stand back and be amazed as this strong and independent firebrand of tech names names that have been outed in media for weeks while still refusing to name any of the scores of alleged offenders they claim to know in their own "industry."

iirc his main source of funding is a GoFundMe or something like that, which may not have been reported yet if the GoFundMe isn't over yet and he hasn't actually gotten any money yet.

Edit: For the record, I know virtually nothing about GoFundMe as well as FEC regulations so I could be entirely wrong.
