Isn't "attack ad" a pretty shady term? Why would someone running for office openly admit to running attack ads and term them as such?

Did we ever find out how the shaker can paint job turned out? It looked like John had applied the putty, and sanded things down and it seems like the next step would be primer and paint, and then some clear coat, right? My assumption was that it would look like it just rolled off the lot. Never heard anything more about that. I wonder why?
