I dunno, left/right thought isn't merely the sum of everybody who sits in those respective camps. Das Kapital isn't any more or less logical just because some American decided she was black.

I've been quietly cheering Dolezal on, partly because the whole situation is funny as fuck, but I'm actually kind of interested in seeing if the USA will ever get over its bizarre definition of race. Even during the days of transatlantic slave trading, we had a more nuanced view of ethnicity.
The idea of being trans-black is obviously pretty stupid, but so long as people start asking themselves what it means to BE black/white, she might actually be doing some good without realising.

What do you mean? Those were the days of the one drop rule, where having any black ancestors on record made someone black. Some slaves were only 1/16 black and appeared white. Homer Plessy in the Plessy versus Ferguson case was 1/8 black.

I want to see trans folks having to argue with other people who say they feel like they weren't born as they were meant to be. I want to see their faces when the person doesn't follow reasonable discussion and questions and just shrieks about bigotry and feelings.

The idea of a white person imagining that they are black (and vise versa) has long been a semi-joking point made about transexuals- that since we have men identifying as women, next we'll have people 'deciding' that they're black, and then people society will have to accept someone's identity as a dragonkin or whatever. And the LGBT (mostly T) community dismisses this as a slippery slope fallacy. So I don't think they'll be in a hurry to accept going down that slope soon (personally, given the nuances of race and it's constructed nature, I see the identifying as X race as much harder to dispute with objective variables than, say, identifying against one's chromosomes and genitalia).

As to that twitter exchange... wow.Will Wu ever actually step foot in a venue where "uh, excuse me, you need to check your WHITE MALE privilege" isn't going to shut the other person up?
 
I really detest the phrase "beta cuck." It's stupid and reductive and insulting and so freighted with racial baggage at this point that I don't think it describes anything except the mindset of the person who uses it.

Then I see a grotesque simpering man-baby who grovels in front of Brianna Wu, begging forgiveness via Tweet and vomiting up all his SJW credentials in thirsty hope he'll get the snarling she-Pope's blessing after *daring* to contradict her on a minor point of phrasing.

Being contradicted makes Wu angry enough to go all apey and fling stuff at people, but with women she has to grit her teeth and not <3 at people.

She was the president of a NAACP chapter. The people that were actually helped by them outweigh the people who's feelings were hurt. This is the absolute deep end of identity politics. Exaggerating about your ethnic background doesn't void sending underprivileged black children to college, volunteering in black communities, feeding homeless, etc. What in the actual fuck. Wu still doesn't want to live in a world where actions speak louder than words, or the amount of bronzer you use.

I don't believe in insinuation: Richard is smart; John is not. Flynt/Wu's stupidity is especially well-displayed in the photo of the puppy and the accompanying imbecilic attempt at snarky commentary, both of which are something you might see from a fifth-grader who will never get to ride to school on the long bus.

I pray daily that his congressional scam gains enough momentum (i know: :optimistic:) that Lynch agrees to a debate in which he immediately interrupts and corrects Flynt/Wu every time he says something that isn't true.
 
I just find this whole show rather amusing because of how childish Wu is acting. He's getting into stupid fights with people on Twitter, while Lynch is focusing on actual issues in his district and letting his people know he's aware, he cares, and he's willing to address those issues.

I don't usually vote Democrat, but Mr. Lynch would have my vote regardless of party lines (were I to be a resident of his district) simply because the needs of his district supersede any ego trip he might want to go on, and I'd vote the man who is more concerned about my interests than the one throwing an infantile tantrum on Twitter.
