Ran into a very interesting article on CNN about a woman who claimed to have had breast cancer and set out on an "awareness campaign." The article hits many of the same notes of Wu's existance - blowing a small issue out of proportion for publicity, lying so often that you often contradict yourself, social media addiction, elective surgery, delusions of grandeur, hiding behind gender, money grabbing, and of course, blocking people on social media.

You know, the "white washed" casting could be interpreted as the writers saying that appearance and race are superficial and we're all the same on the inside. Plus most actual native Japanese people don't seem to think this is racist and the only people who are offended are upper class westerners, the vast majority of which aren't even of Japanese heritage.
It almost seems kinda RACIST that they claim to speak for an ethnic group they're not even part of, but what do I know?

A story that (also) asks the question 'What makes a human?'. A world where people can choose how their body looks, which makes ethic appearances absolutely irrelevant... I haven't even seen the remake and already know they probably will explain that bit in a way that resonates with the themes of the story.
