I won't deny being a faggot, but I blame being in a bit of a rush so I probably didn't phrase my thoughts properly.
Much like any cult, if there's one thing that trannies hate the most, it's anyone that goes against the accepted dogma. In trannies' case, it's detransitioners. They will spew such bile at a former tranny that it's no wonder a lot of them choose not to publicly detrans. Even if they don't make any judgments on the efficacy of troon "healthcare" and just say that it didn't work out for them, they will still get attacked and harassed, called out as not a "true" tranny (like John does with FTMs), and so on.
On top of that, you have those that feel guilt about being detrans when related to the wider tranny community. Even if they've been mistreated and abused by these psychos, they don't want to be held up by icky TERFs as an example of why trooning out is retarded for fear of the cult losing access to their titty skittles. So they'll either continue playing along because it's easier for them, or they'll quietly detrans and refuse to talk about it.
These are the types that wouldn't show up in a study like the one you mentioned, the ones that simply don't want to talk about it for any number of reasons. Couple that with a deliberate ambiguity in what "detransitioning" means, and you end up with an overly rosy picture of how effective trooning out is.

He notably says "new gender role" so...is he trying to imply that you have to work a traditionally masculine/feminine job for a year before you transition? Or is he implying that, after you change your gender, you have to work for a year? What happens if you don't, do they reverse your transition?
