By the way, here's the campaign website for Mr. Lynch.

You can see how professional it is.

Damn... clicked around and on the 'Issues' page for 'Stopping Gun Violence' he tells a story about how his cousin was shot 9 times and killed by someone who had an illegal gun, leaving the cousin's daughter without a dad.

He takes the typical liberal stance of banning high-cap magazines, "military style assault rifles", and increasing background checks. While I personally don't agree with this stance, what is the stance of his opponent candidate Wu? Stopping gun violence like the kind that killed Lynch's cousin can be accomplished through....... VR simulation of weapons??!!?!?!?

Lynch also has a video under 'Equal Pay for Women' about the wage gap and how he supported various legislation to combat the (supposed) wage gap, and another about how he supports equal protection and opportunities for the LGBT community. What a misogynist!

And in case you were wondering, I only knew Wu's stance on issues from reading her twitter and this thread - on briannawu2018.com only 3 issues are covered at all - "A High Tech Economy for MA", "Privacy and Cybersecurity", and "Keep MA Tax Dollars in MA". That's right, no mention at all about equality for women in the workplace, stopping gun violence, or LGBT rights on candidate Wu's page. Remind me again which candidate is the progressive here?

Aside from those three brief passages comprising her entire 'platform' (at least as covered on her official site- powered by squarespace, because of course she would) I can't help but notice that under "Official Announcements" she hasn't actually announced anything in the months since her candidacy begun.

But at least she's got some stock photos on there that look like they were cribbed out of an HR brochure from a mid-size corporation. So that's something.

(just gonna thumbnail the page here)

I don't care about any bullshit Wu can come up with to slander Mr. Lynch. His people love him and seems to be a good and honest person. Only way Wu will win is if he passes away. I really want to see him debate Wu though, but I have my doubts he will ever get that far in the election. Near the end of the year he'll back out saying GG made him do it.

The focus on assault rifles is just in line with standard Democrat policies. At present legal automatic weapons in Massachusetts are restricted to C&R FFL holders and police instructors, so there are barely any in civilian hands.

Unfortunately some people since the 1980s have tried to characterise semi-automatic sporting rifles as assault rifles, and this has led to the issue becoming a major talking point in the gun politics debate. It's one of the few cases where Wikipedia is actually a reliable source on a political issue, since it clarifies what an assault rifle is on its article.

The picture of the bar looks similar but nothing I could see on their menu or specials is similar to what they are eating.

I did say "maybe." The point is there are plenty of faux dives near them, and I think we can all agree that whatever Frank's gaping maw was terrorizing in that image, it wasn't a real dive bar.

I don't want to put the effort into digging up the quote or screen shot, but I particularly love John's assertion that working on his shitty, 17 year old, "classic", German, 1.8l "race car" in his spare time, some how puts him in tune with the hard working, blue collar, salt of the earth type folks in his district and that his opponent simply can't claim those credentials. Meanwhile, Lynch was an actual fucking steel worker for a period of time.

You know, much as I don't want to go and agree with John...

I have family up in Maine. And there are dive bars up there that serve lobster cheaper then a burger.

But I doubt she actually left Mass to go to said 'dive bar' and it's too brightly lit.

What the hell? There ARE background checks. Have been for years. What's with Dems always agitating for "common sense" gun control that's so fucking common sense we've already done it for decades?

Anyway, most gun control is at the state level.

A lot of times those background checks aren't mandatory, which is what Dems are actually pushing for. Nevermind that mandatory background checks would be a logistic nightmare...

They're mandatory every place I've bought a gun, including the deep South. And I couldn't just go home with my new purchase, either - it had to be shipped from the gun dealer to a gun dealer in my home state and I paid a fee to him to hand it over.

What they really want is federal registration, which is the real nightmare.

IIRC, some places have really gaping holes, like allowing mentally unstable people buy guns.

South Dakota will let anyone buy almost anything without a permit. Unsurprisingly they have a lower than average rate of homelessness and mental instability.

Literally every place in the US has and uses background checks. The only exceptions anymore are private party-to-party sales, and its not uncommon for background checks to be required for those too (although if I sell my gun to you for cash in the privacy of my own home, how is Uncle Sam ever to know?) No, the checks don't catch everyone who is ineligible to own guns, but the checks do happen everywhere.

There may not be a "permit" to buy a gun but every gun purchaser has to be cleared through the FBI's NICS system by the FBI before a sale can proceed.
