If they are dropping over $2000/month on rent they aren't hurting at all for money.

The fact that they're paying $2000/mo for that house that far outside of Boston (30 minutes outside of Boston isn't that far, but it's far enough that housing prices drop significantly) leads me to believe that their credit is shot, and they're paying under the table because their credit is too shit to get a real rental.

Note this is completely separate as to whether they're hurting for money. But I'm like 90% sure their credit is absolutely garbage.

John's basically got nothing.

What's there to even get out of a divorce settlement? Aside from a bankrupt company and that stupid motorcycle (which I'm pretty sure Frank payed for anyway).

I just don't think John would settle that easily. That's his meal ticket, source of toys and vidya, and evidence of his femaleness telling him to hit the bricks.

Actually, I wonder what Brianna's credit score is like. Her name has not been on any of the business documents for GSX, her parents took on the debt for the animation studio, her parents bought her the place she was living during the rehab years and were paying her rent in DC, she might not have any student loans, and she seems completely detached from Wu household finances.

Someone brought it up on Discord, but it's entirely possible the Wus are happy living this way. I have friends who both have great jobs, plenty of money, no bad debt to speak of but live in a fucking mess.

Additionally, it's not like the Wus are going to ever host anyone at their house. They have no friends to speak of and no children so they might be perfectly happy living in dust and dog hair but blowing all their money on useless toys, Apple products and pay to win Vidya.

An interesting question. Debt from her indeterminate number of cosmetic-and-therefore-probably-not-covered-by-insurance medical procedures?

Their cars are cheap, their house is horrible, the video game was cheaply made and the much vaunted congressional run has involved home made campaign ads. If those two have money they must be hiding it under the mattress.

depends on the state, my guess is the Wu's moved to such a liberal area and state when most the work had to be done (2008) because some of it was probably covered under "necessary health" instead of cosmetic surgery. The Wu's aren't above scamming anything so that would fit their profile.

I was under the impression Frank was pulling in a quarter million doing his patent job. Despite GSK being ruinous, I don't really see a guy on that salary going up to the eyeballs in debt.

He almost certainly is. He's about as high as he can go in his career while still being on the operational side of things. He'll probably retire doing the same job since he seems like an unlikely candidate for C-level positions.

I doubt the Wus have any serious problems with money. The only problemI see is that Frank doesn't have any real assets to go with job status. That 500K plus he threw down the drain on BriBri's games pipe dream should have been the last few payments on a nice townhouse.

Wu got a long puff piece written on The Ringer.

http://archive.is/uNi0o

There was a lot of stuff in there that Flynt/Wu won't regard as puffery. For example:

"Yet I was perturbed by the fact that she’d promote a three-pronged platform with one prong that fundamentally misunderstands the system it’s trying to reimagine. And the excuse of doing so to appeal to conservative constituents suggests ideological flexibility but not common sense — are conservative constituents so uninformed that they wouldn’t realize the plan won’t work?"

That will be the last interview Flynt/Wu does with that reporter.

Wondering why she retweeted it, though.

Wondering why she retweeted it, though.

Probably for the same reason Wu retweeted someone debunking his silly moonrocks theory because he thought it was vindicating him (all the while demanding an apology from the doubters, of whom included actual scientists)... because Wu is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Actually, NOBODY is as smart as Wu thinks he is.

Or maybe Wu just doesn't read very well. That might help explain that laughable "hacking" accusation recently. Although I think Wu demonstrates more of a tendency to "see" whatever he wants to see.

You guys act like someone making $250,000/yr can't live beyond their means, but I guarantee you they can because I see it all the time.

Just because Frank's job pays well doesn't mean that they don't run up debt with all sorts of dumbass stupid purchases (or investments into video game companies that sell 1000 copies). This is part of why I think their credit is fried.

What was the contract thing about? I feel like I missed something big.

John's "company" that he was in charge of for Revolution 60 would pay all employees $1 guaranteed. I forget the exact wording, but he would decide what the rest of the payment would be. So basically he could pay all his employees 1 dollar only and then give them good boy points or pats on the back for a job well done, and that would fulfill the contractual obligation.

Wu hired freelance coders off craiglist and paid them a dollar an hour with the promise that when revolution 60 became a billion dollar multimedia franchise they'd end up winning because it would look great on their resumes. Some of it is the employee's fault for being naive enough to believe that massive load of crap but it's still a dick move.

While I agree with you in principle, look at two big expenditures those kind of people go over their heads with - cars and housing. Frank's got them living like an $80k household in those two respects. They certainly aren't buying clothes at Neiman Marcus - John's been wearing the same black dress and gut belt for years.

I mean, maybe if someone shows a massive prescription pill habit, I could see it. Frank makes big mistakes like GiantSpaceMoneypit but he doesn't seem to live a lifestyle that incurs debt.
