Aside from the obvious satisfaction of vindication, I'm really glad that John finally came out as a tranny because of all the revealing insights that prove just how delusional he truly is. He goes on at length about how he always had interest in more traditionally feminine things and never really felt attraction to women, yet he uses that as proof of being a true and honest woman instead of, y'know, a gay man. He rattles off every single symptom of depression, yet he chalks it up to having a woman's brain instead of, y'know, being depressed. He proudly proclaims himself a recovered addict, then immediately follows it up with posts about his replacement addictions of conspicuous consumption and plastic surgery.

Like, seriously, it's fascinating how he'll rationalize anything to avoid the simple truth that he's a self-hating gay man who would rather pretend to be a woman than continue failing as a man. With the right intervention, maybe he'd actually have been able to lead a happier life once he'd come to accept who he was, but he's also pretty retarded so it might have been hopeless from the start.

Also, I don't think I've ever heard of estrogen magically curing depression. If anything, it sounds like one big placebo for ol' Johnny.

Doing some additional research, you're correct in that birthplace isn't updated during adoption, at least not in Virginia (might be different in other states but that's irrelevant). We also know John's date of birth as July 6, 1977. The ages of his "adopted" parents that he conveniently did not blank out are 27 and 28, which would put them at 74/75 and 75/76 today, depending on birthday.

And would you look at that, their birthdays are after his, so the ages match up (Joel, Laura):

Not necessarily a smoking gun, of course, especially since John still won't admit who his parents are. But as you said, they did put out a birth announcement for one John Walker Flynt in the Magee Courier on September 22, 1977. That's two and a half months after his actual date of birth, but I doubt that's out of the ordinary, especially given that standards were different fifty years ago and they weren't living in the area, so news would naturally travel slower. Newspapers.com needs a subscription to view the full page, but here's a link to the search, and I've clipped what I can see for free below:

As mentioned above, this isn't a smoking gun per se because John still won't admit to his birth name. But given that the time frame lines up, the location matches, and he didn't change his middle name, it's about as close as one can get without that. And, of course, all the other mountains of evidence we have that Brianna is John.

Now, is it possible that Joel and Laura adopted a baby, felt ashamed about it for some reason, and decided to claim that he was their natural born son in the announcement? I suppose, but that's a tremendous reach. It's instead significantly more likely that the simplest explanation is the correct one: John wasn't adopted, he chooses this lie because he'd rather believe he's not related to those damn bigots that wouldn't accept him as a true and honest woman.

As for whether Frank knows, I wouldn't be surprised if he did. Obviously he's not about to call John out on his lie in public, but what would John have to gain by covering it up in private? Frank's supposed to be the only person he's actually told the truth to all these years (although the idea of him being oblivious to John not being a woman is pretty funny), so I don't see why John wouldn't just tell him "I'd rather think of myself as adopted because it makes me feel better" and leave it at that.

A large part of the reason Wu had such an exaggerated reaction to the Farms revealing she didn't have a degree is that I believe she'd been lying to Frank about it in quite a serious way. After Frank got laid off from MoFo in California and moved to Boston for work, Wu's claimed activity was that she was a graduate student at Boston City University. This appears in a lot of the early gamergate puff pieces that talk about Wu founding Giant Spacekat, with both Amanda Warner and Frank appearing to believe Wu was attending classes.

Now, you can't be a graduate student if you don't have an undergrad, so what exactly was Wu doing during that time? I think there must have been some, er, discussions behind closed doors on that one.

(Also, it's not really evidence of anything that Joel and Laura Flynt are listed on Wu's birth certificate. That would be the case if Wu were actually adopted.)
