Please someone correct my ignorance about American politics! It seems to an outsider like she just grabbed the title of 'Democrat' and is running with it, without bothering to discuss this with the main party.

Do American parties let just any rando who has money take their names? Is there a vetting or approval process of some sort? Who are the individuals or what is the committee that accepted her into the Democrat fold as an official representative?

Yes and no. The relationship between the party and the candidate is a lot looser than in the UK, so yes: any damn fool can run calling themselves a Democrat or a Republican. If multiple people decide to run representing one party, then they hold a primary election before the general election to narrow it down.

But without your party's help and approval, you probably don't have much of a chance. Someone serious about a run would have contacted party officials and hashed some things out before making any kind of public announcement. This is a short-term vanity project.

Occasionally, though, something very fucking weird can happen. Like, Alaska's Lisa Murkowski lost the Republican primary to a Tea Party guy, put herself forward as a write-in candidate in the general and won the election. That kind of thing is vanishingly rare, though.

INT. NOSTROMO DINNER TABLE
Crew is laughing as suddenly Executive Officer Gilbert Kane starts to have a seizure.
The crew lays him down on the table.
(cut to) Kanes chest bursting open in a spray of blood, a hideous snarling emerges from the hole.
BRIANNA: Wu for cogressssssss...
Words on screen appear "Wu 2018".

Bernie Sanders isn't a Democrat, as well. Just wanted the political machine. When he didn't get his way he ran away again. "Principles" go out the window with the thought of power no matter your leanings.

Now that John is talking about running for congress I hope he eventually gets interviewed by Tucker Carlson. I would die happy.

"Mrs Wu, why do you keep doing that?"

(SNARLTIC) "Doing what, TUCKER?"

"That with your face, do you have an undeclared medical condition or something?"

(HUFF HUFF SNARLTIC)

Don't play dumb.

He's not playing. He actually is dumb.

Also he is not running for office. This is just attention whoring and I believe the name Brianna Wu will never appear on a ballot.

Party politics is a state by state patchwork of contradictory things but generally the only person who decided what party you're in is you. However, the Mass Democratic machine is pretty powerful as state parties go and they will kick the shit out of an idiot like John just for the hell of it.

They have already chosen the kooks and loons they want representing them. John isn't one of those.

Well you could be spending Christmas Eve with your family or Frank's except all of them fucking hate your ass.

I think John is going to be shocked that political opponents don't just let it slide when you lie about utterly basic shit like having a degree, a career, or any positive attributes whatsoever.

Or that a largely Catholic working class district will vote for a snarling tranny trophy wife.

Would be funny to see an attack ad against Wu.

Maybe with this playing in the background:

"She claims to have been a correspondant in Washington....She claims to have been in the bunker with the press corps during 9/11, she claims to have had a degree at Old Miss."

Oh you know the shit these fuckfaces will say to justify OUR WAY AT ANY COST:

"You'll just have to trust Brianna because validating her history would deadname her, and that's violence."

"Pointing out that someone's fabricated reality has no bearing on the really real world whatsoever is violence!"

"How can you be so insensitive to say such mean things about Brianna!? That's violence!"

there's no way wu would run, calling it now. this is a big noise before he drops it and never mentions it again.

i don't think it'd be a big blowout either if he did. there'd be no public revelations or scathing indictments about his background. lynch would probably totally ignore him and refuse to interact with anyone so insignificant. it'd be like the crazy on the back of the bus "running for office". you don't dedicate resources to that type of "opponent".

wu is a total unknown. he probably wouldn't even make the ballot. a real professional with a real political background couldn't get 40% of the vote with 300,000 dollars. frank has money, but he's not gonna let his praying mantis-goblin bankrupt him to play pretend grown-up.

edit: i actually just realized (because i'm a moron) this is probably a precursor to a "DONATE TO MY CAMPAIGN" scam. which i'm 100% cool with, anyone who gives wu money deserves to be ripped off

Well, add onnibus to the dictionary sized list of words he doesn't actually understand.
