This paper aims to measure differences in risk behavior among expert chess players. The study employs a panel data set on international chess with 1.4 million games recorded over a period of 11 years. The structure of the data set allows us to use individual fixed-effect estimations to control for aspects such as innate ability as well as other characteristics of the players. Most notably, the data contains an objective measure of individual playing strength, the so-called Elo rating. In line with previous research, we find that women are more risk-averse than men. A novel finding is that men choose more aggressive strategies when playing against female opponents even though such strategies reduce their winning probability.

Strategic behavior across gender: A comparison of female and male expert chess players

The hormone testosterone (T) has a central role in recent theories about allocation of status ranks during face-to-face competition. It has been methodologically convenient to test the hypothesized T mechanism in physically taxing athletic contests, where results have been supportive, although their generalizability to normal social competition is questionable. Competition among chess players is a step closer to normal social competition because it does not require physical struggle, and it is the arena for tests of the T mechanism which are reported here. We find that winners of chess tournaments show higher T levels than do losers. Also, in certain circumstances, competitors show rises in T before their games, as if in preparation for the contests. These results generally support recent theories about the role of T in the allocation of status ranks.

I had forgotten about him. He seemed to disappear suddenly which was unfortunate, I'm sure he had more dirt to dish.

I'm always curious about how little betrayal and disloyalty Wu seems to experience. Maybe he's very selective in only ever working with mindless virtue signalers who will never rock the boat, but it does seem like people don't talk about him much after working with him.

Wu's wild inconsistency on this reveals the fundamental point of Wu's entire project: It's not about protecting trans rights or healthcare, it's about protecting Wu from the stigma of being a self-hating tranny. Wu just wants everyone else to shut the fuck up and accept that the closet is the correct place for trannies so she can continue to pretend that people see her as a normal woman.

Very curious selection of examples here: one is one of the few sports that have mixed tournaments as a default (and female-exclusive ones, but not male-exclusive) whose rankings prove empirically that there's actually a gender disadvantage (for whatever reason), and the other is a """sport""" that Wu is really interested in so there's a transparent conflict of interest. I don't know how either works in his argument's favour if you think about it for two seconds.

At this point I'm starting to think that Wu's purposefully baiting transgenders and handmaidens into "harassing" him, not just vainly dunking on them. I bet he's collecting the most deranged replies on a folder so he can present it as proof of being the biggest victim on the Internet again so he can recreate his 2014's short-lived jump into relevance, but this time with the attack coming from the opposite side.
