That's one reason why Trump winning would be a bit like Brexit succeeding. It's a call for people like Wu to realise that snarky tweets and blocklists don't stop people with differing opinions from existing (and voting).

Keyword is "defend ourselves".

Different procedures apply if the US is under attack or in a war already, as also noted by others: There are rules of succession.

But as for an offensive, spur of the moment strike, that's not something the president singlehanded can do.

Chiefs of Staff have to be notified, and the order seconded by the secretary of Defence. Only then does the order move down to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and move further down the hierarchy.

And obviously, the military has a duty NOT to obey clearly unlawful orders, such as a nuclear strike on a country that the US isn't at war with/a war the congress hasn't approved.

In other words: There are safeguards built into place in the system.

Only in the most autistic nightmares of the most autistic Hillary supporters, does the President merely have to press a button, to make nukes go flying seconds later.

"That's ridiculous, what if the Soviet Union had..." Doesn't matter. The current procedure for launching nukes (SIOP: Single Integrated Operational Plan) is different from what it was during the cold war.

On the other hand, there's no deadlines or pressure to deliver. Not to say that real journalists don't work hard to deliver but he only needs to type away when he feels like it and find some second rate content mill to put it up.

Coupled with the fact that she doesn't need the income, she will most likely always just do this. Sell (or maybe even give) freelance stories to shitty websites to increase her visibility.
 
The fact of the matter is that Wu is likely going to be relatively successful at her journalism career. She'll never be employed as an actual writer, but as mentioned above she'll be able to crowd-source enough "research" from her twitter minions to put out regular opinion pieces. She won't even have any real deadlines or time constraints, so she can always claim to be "working on a piece about..." There will be plenty of places that will put her drivel up on their websites because, like it or not, her name attached to an article will bring in the views, if for no other reason that people hate-reading her stuff because they saw a post about it on KIA. No one will take her stupid ideas seriously, but on paper at least, she'll be "succeeding"

Yeah, it's not that hard to "succeed" when you don't have to worry about pleb concerns like actually earning a living through your work. Just the fact that she's there and willing to give her work away for free - or even pay to be published - means there will always be a clickbait mill ready to feature her, at least as long as clickbait mills continue to exist.
 
I do wonder if Journalist Wu is still going to promote his true and honest indie game dev background, or just sweep it under the carpet until he needs to sperg about vidya. Unless you're drowning in the KoolAid, there's no way to see that part of his life as anything other than an embarrassing failure.

I tend to agree with this. In this day and age, outrage inducing clickbait articles are the name of the game. Things such as journalistic integrity, facts, accountability, diction, punctuation, syntax, and even spelling have long lost relevance to what passes as modern day journalism. Fortunately though, so have things like financial compensation, so at least there is some solace in that. Any talentless, unscrupulous, attention seeking hack like John who can drum up enough rage is virtually guaranteed a soap box. Unfortunately though, John is something of a diminishing asset in this regard. While I think he will most likely always be able get something published his star will continue to fade for a variety of reasons:

  1. His themes are pretty played out - John is a one trick pony. He has already blown his load on all the gamer rage. A year or so ago, his by line alone would have guaranteed a bunch of outrage from the KiA folks, but no one other than a few hold-out, stonewalling nerds seem to give a real shit about that anymore. As we know even from his games, his tendency is to rehash the same largely tone-deaf and unrelatable themes.
  2. Twitter is falling apart - Twitter is John's primary conduit to his pathetic fanbase and fetishists. The company cannot seem to find a high profile buyer right now. Whatever happens, it seems like the platform is no longer going to remain as it is. The hipster/sjw leadership is looking to cash-out and move on asap.
  3. He's a giant, ghastly, middle aged tranny who is trying to act like a 20 something attractive woman. It simply is not going to pan out for him. There are tons of legitimately hot young broads vying for the his spot on the regressive left and in opposition on the bat-shit right. One look at him and people know they are dealing with a dude. He can sand down his vocal cords, and chop off whatever he wants. Fucking Milo in drag makes a more convincing woman.
