Lord knows we've been speculating on that question for nearly a decade now, and the above answers are about as good a guess as any. Seriously, Frank wrote a story about wanting to fuck an isopod, and he's painted John as a half-"woman" half-octopus thing. It's surprisingly not unreasonable to argue that Frank wanted to build his perfect bride.Serious question. What’s Frank getting in all of this?
Like he’s got money, he must be able to do better than John.
Beyond that, the other theory that makes a modicum of sense is that Frank also wanted someone he could control. While we don't have proof beyond he-said-she-said, his ex-wife's testimony of how he abused her emotionally and physically does not paint a pretty picture. I have no reason to believe she'd lie, especially given how two-faced Frank was after she called him out for lying about her, not the actions of an innocent man. Either way, going by her descriptions, Frank was an abusive control freak who didn't appreciate the thought of his wife surpassing him in any way, but also didn't want her leaving him and stalked her across country when she did.
After that, along comes John at a sci-fi con, and for whatever reason they hit it off, probably due to shared bonding over whatever nerd shit. In John, Frank sees not only someone who he can willingly act out his Frankenstein fetishes on, but also someone who would be wholly dependent on him and refuse to leave no matter what. You have to understand that John was not in a good place in his life at this point; his rich family had finally cut him off after over a decade of failing to get a single college degree, and he was working at a FUCKING GAMESTOP. A screaming chink midget shows up and is willing to be his sugar daddy, even paying for every tranny procedure he could ever want? You better believe John's gonna stick with him! It's also why Frank likely tolerates John shittalking him on Twitter, because he knows who truly wears the pants in their relationship. I have no doubt that if John did try to get a divorce, Frank would use every legal trick in the book to ensure he gets nothing, not even a single Porsche.
It's basically two gay men (or at least prison gay for Frank) spending copious amounts of money on shared interests, with the added benefit for Frank of always having a hold of John's leash (I pray that I only mean that metaphorically, because the literal image hurts my brain).
