Cognitive dissonance is more of a theory than an actual thing. Most people just ignore their logical inconsistencies and lurch through life completely ignorant of them. Even so-called smart people. Arguably, it is actually more intelligent to just go through your life blissfully ignorant of any facts that do nothing but make you unhappy and would actually disrupt your selfish pro-self activities if you were actually dumb enough to think about them.

This is why everyone hates philosophers.

Oh yeah, the man who blindly follows political figures because he was told to by his senpais and frequently arrogantly belittles and insults anyone who disagrees with him no matter who they are is totally good, and the people who call him out on it are clearly evil. Honestly at this point I think he sees himself as Mario and anyone who disagrees with him as koopas.

I don't even think that's the main problem. The most popular or at least memorable FF games ( 6 and 7) were bittersweet story-wise. Do the heroes win? Yeah, but they get their shit fucked up in the process. FF6 had the heroes lose, the villain becoming god-like, and the world shattered. It went from princes, mysterious magical girls and ancient secret beings to barren wastelands, genocide, teen pregnancy, towns consumed by crime, the heroes being flung all across the planet and trying to find their place in a new broken world. Chrono Trigger also knew how to present those low points that a good story needs.

Now we have FF13's Lightning who takes on all the worst aspects of previous protagonists and a world so unremarkable that you really don't care what happens to it. I don't know much about the next FF but it looks like a bunch of teenage boys in black who wield giant swords while riding in a convertible. From what little I've seen it feels very much like a game that was created just to appeal to the western market and I don't have much faith in Japan devs nailing the open world concept that the west has been trying to master for almost two decades. I hope I'm wrong but I hope I'm wrong whenever I think a game looks iffy because who wants another shitfest game like Revolution 60 out there? Yeah, that's the best I can do to make this post Brianna Wu related. Dust your fucking waifu dolls, John.
