John as a master chef culinary artist should understand that knives are expensive so people do not want to risk damaging them. A basic set of knives--paring/utility, chef's knife, and serrated knife--will cost around $500 for decent quality knives (basic shun or something like that).

caught mine for following the The West Wing Thing podcast (along with anyone else who follows the pod's twitter, and probably either of the hosts). it is extremely not a fan podcast, she only listened to the first episode and had a meltdown over two white men talking about how misogynist Aaron Sorkin is without having any women in it. (and they don't like Hillary Clinton, which means they're obviously Russian Bots)

Later episodes have included guests like Susan Saxe, Amber A'Lee Frost, Briahna Joy Gray, Mary Kate O'Flanagan, Rachel Larris, Alex Press, Katie Halper and Marianne Williamson, but sure, they "criticize the portrayal of women without apparently TALKING to any women". (would've linked episodes, but most of those ladies have been on TWWT a bunch of times)

I honestly don't believe for a second he had a Net Yaroze back in 1997. Only a few thousand or so were sold according to this article (where a couple people working for Sony at the time confirm about a thousand each in the UK and US, and a couple thousand more in Japan). The thought of some gangly 20-something John buying a special PS1 to make homebrew games on is laughable as he was far from the tech world, working on his first failed attempt at a journalism degree at the time. I sincerely doubt he was one of the thousand people to buy one in the US.

Rather, I think he heard about the console years later, then made up a story about being an elite game dev back in the day. Who's gonna call him out? The original Net Yaroze forums are long shut down, and I don't even know the address for them to see if they're on the Internet Archive, so there's no proof one way or another that John was a homebrew legend.

The only thing we have to go on with regards to John's past is his own word, and if you're the sort of person to take that at face value, then I have a bridge in New York to sell you.
