GuessI started it by really liking blindsight. - sorry (nah, not really sorry, I still think it's a great book)
FWIW I put it over Vinge for the same reason I thought Rifters wasn't as good as blindsight.
Rainbow's end was trying to put too much in and stretched it too thin. Fast Times at Faremont high was cool, but one n done. It's like why I didn't like the Ghostbuster's reboot. I don't think there ever should have been a GB II, it was cute but the concept supported one movie. I'm OK with authros doing the polishing and adding, I'm not saying don't do it, but there seems to be a sweetspot that they hit, for Vinge it was fast TImes for Watts it was Blindsight IMO. Peter Watts is kind of known for including refs and citations so I didn't see any nefarious deal. As far a jacking off, I gotta think that more alternasexuals pull pud to goatse.cx, but I don't think that's either here nor there like they are all up in that just b/c they use it as an avatarn , just like Peter Watt's being used to doing acadmic citations and the style coming over. Really his deal with evolution that reminds me of Brett Weinstein with a mechanistic take
with Watts putting it like "Evolution has no foresight. Complex machinery develops its own agendas."

I really don't think the main "check" Congress has on the courts is to add judges to every court every time they make a decision a certain percentage of Congress dislikes, especially since it's not like when a court adds a new member it gets to revisit past decisions right away. I wonder what the constant expansion of courts for political purposes would do to the "very legitmatey" of the court system.

Its not the obvertly sexual stuff that was the issue. Again, he name drops one of the intromanuals for S&M. If he'd been more oblique about it, it wouldn't have pinged, but that's something you don't really find through casual reading. It makes you reevaluate what he's been laying down up until that point.

It'd be like if he wrote a Fantasy Romance novel with a love triangle and name dropped The Ethical Slut as he tries to pivot them to an open poly relationship; When that happens you realize that the earlier plot points about the setting's royalty having multiple interconnected marriages wasn't supposed to be a subtle nod to the complicated map Renaissance map of alliances and barrons having multiple and often conflicting fealties (or a commentary on Hapsburg inbreeding) it was an excuse for them to inject their Poly fantasy society into the book.

IIRC, he even said something along the lines of voting was the only option they had because bitching wasn't going to get anything done. Watts has always been one for bringing the receipts, he's from the sciences. Of course he cites stuff that isnt from casual reading, he's not causal, hes' not filter feeding. , he doesn't just do casual "spaceships and rayguns" that's what he calls it with disdain. (he's also really self-critical of his writing style, fair in hard SF)
He's hard SF like real actual hard SF so he's going to bring it straight ahead.

Dear Brianna, I find myself in need of your engineering knowledge. I was recently browsing your feed to learn some new brain knowledge but as I was in the middle of reading this excellent political opinion my irony meter made this weird high pitched screaming noise and started belching black smoke. Since then it seems to be completely non functional. Do you have any handy tech tips?

This just makes me laugh. "A pretty high level knowledge" like MKII is anywhere near the level of relevancy of like, Super Turbo. Sure MKII is historically important, but it's not like you're seeing any kind of community resources for it like any other classic game. I hated when people did that shit. It's like people who would only use projectile moves or the moves where it's something repeated over and over again (like E Honda's slap thingy in Street Fighter).

Plus it's a terrible strategy against people who know what they're doing
