John is such a fucking moron.

Heinlein gained mainstream fame because of his novels and because of short stories that appeared in mainstream magazines from The Saturday Evening Post to Boys' Life.

And the magazine was called Astounding, not Analog, when Heinlein was making his name. Today, Analog is a tiny, insignificant hobbyhorse that publishes crap written by the editor's pals and whatever POC lesbians he can persuade to gin up an illiterate tale about butch alien bitches bumping extraterrestrial pussies in deep space.

Now that local governments and therefore constituents have more direct control over a controversial issue, things are surely going to become worse than my favourite TV show, Handmaiden's Tale.

puzle piece rant:

I stopped subscribing to Analog, after decades. Just to be clear that was years before I heard of MC Bri Bri and the Wokey bunch. It's not that, they are a cause, but they may be a symptom - and I'm an Octavia Butler fan.

Analog was kind of the hard SF hold out, but its quality declined too and too badly for me to continue reading.
After Blindsight didn't win either the Hugo or the Nebula - I gave up even listening to who won.

I'm not saying there isn't a place for soft SF or fantasy or literary SF - but it's that "creeping mainstreamism" as it's been called where the spectulative/transformative tools of SF is chucked and the stories are Space Opera, Y/A adventure or a Judy Bloom book (no hate on Bloom, different genre) with just a spray painted on coating of "...in space or something"

I don't have anything, literarilly, against Screamo the Pinball Sugardaddy (though apparently from Bri Bris tweets practicing law without a license is none too cool) . I'm sure he's a very bright guy.
But Analog and, sadly, the genre as it's popularly distributed has really diluted itself

Bri Bri's tastes are an example of at least on...he lavishes praise on stories with strong women (TM), and it's so transparent and one dimensional, he was recently called out (see a few posts above) for gushing about the strong women he could even bother to notice who portrayed them (with a nice whiff of casual racism and internalized patriarchism to boot!)

Analog is not the feather in the cap it once was. Wish it weren't the case, but people in hell want ice water so what are ya gonna do.

I thought that was Penthouse

My alien abduction :
Dear Penthouse Forum, I never thought this would happen to me, but....

I still think that'd be a fun-as-shit job to write the "letters"
Alas, I'd get fired b/c I couldn't help but end them all with "I came so hard I crapped my pants" just to ruin some dude's literary stroke off

What a retard. Firstly, it’s Romijn. Second, she divorced Stamos and stopped using his name almost 20 years ago (2005).

He just dead named her.

it's not like Romijn has been visible in mega-popular "geeky content" (little unknown things like, the fucking X-men or even earlier trek)
or married another "geeky content" luminary (Mr Sliders) over a decade ago...AND decided not to change her surname to his like a feminist
or anything.

John just saw women in Trek and ran to tweet a victory for, "us women" so fast he nearly knocked over the jar holding his pickled dick and forgot to, you know, actually watch the show

Well, considering just yesterday you didn't even understand the basic plot of two movies, I'm going to say... that there's nothing in the TOS or later that says women can't be starship captains. There's women in command before Kirk and Star Trek IV shows a woman admiral. The logical conclusion is merely that TOS didn't depict a woman captain, not that there couldn't be one. You can point to Lester's line and Kirk's acknowledgement but it seems more rhetorical than a statement of the law, much like how now if someone said "a woman can't be President" it's factually true that no woman is President (or has been) but it's not prohibited. (And one even nearly did become President just recently and we currently have a woman Vice President.) It's a statement about the pretensions of society, not the actual world of law and regulations. The more reasonable read of Lester's line is that she's critiquing the current practice and custom of Starfleet's administration. It's a boys club, but it doesn't have to be.

Funny that such a strong feminist woman like John doesn't take it that way and instead goes for some "geek cred" TECHNICALLY shit.
For those that aren't aware, John (and those who share this "TOS was too problematic" mindset) is referring to the last episode of TOS, "Turnabout Intruder," widely regarded as one of the worst episodes. The plot involves a woman who knew Kirk using an alien device to swap minds with him so that she can be a starship captain. But you really do have to take her lines in the episode with a grain of salt because she's clearly not in the best mental state.

Though she said "your world of starship captains doesn't admit women," it could be argued that she was just rationalizing her own failure to become a captain and blaming it on sexism, rather than admitting that she wasn't up to snuff. And since female captains were already shown in the Trek timeline pre- and post-TOS, clearly she's incorrect anyway (though that could be a retcon, I'm not treating it as such). But instead of trying again and working to improve herself, she cheats and steals her rival's body, even telling her co-conspirator that she never loved Kirk, only loved his position as a captain.

I can see why John would identify with stealing another person's accomplishments and passing them off as your own, however.

Finally, apropos of nothing, enjoy this behind-the-scenes tidbit I found on Memory Alpha while reviewing the plot of this episode, with Shatner proving he's still the best captain:
There is a detailed account of the filming of this episode in the 1975 book Star Trek Lives!. Co-author Joan Winston had the opportunity to spend six days on the set while "Turnabout Intruder" was being shot. Winston wrote that Shatner was very ill with the flu at the time and had considerable difficulty in picking up and carrying Sandra Smith, the actress who played Dr. Lester, for take after take. At one point, he said, "You know I love you, baby, but you've got to lose about six inches off that ass," which brought down the house.

Listen male rapist, either donate $2,500 to John or shut the fuck up.

When you think about it Wu has less skin in the abortion game than even the average soyboy. At no point in his life could he have ever gotten pregnant and he will never make anyone pregnant because he castrated himself and he's married to a gay middle aged man. An unwanted pregnancy will never enter into his life in any shape or form.

Someone should ask him about his history of contraceptives used to avoid pregnancies in his life and long relationship with Frank. Did he ever use birth control, sponges, an IUD maybe... I'm sure the answer will be that he was rendered infertile in a Mississippi bike seat accident when he was 11.

Just a reminder: Roe V. Wade was still unchallenged when John's mother was pregnant with him, and look at where we are now. So clearly it was imperfect at preventing incidents like John Walker Flynt.

After Blindsight didn't win either the Hugo or the Nebula - I gave up even listening to who won.

Off topic, but Blindsight was a solid concept but kind of a piece of shit from the moment he tried to introduce vampires. Plus from his previous series I knew more about the dude's fetishes than I ever wanted to, and they were poking out in that one too if you had read his previous work and knew what to look for. Like Doctorow and his Cougar fetish.
I don't know what its competition was. But I guess as long as it broke the spell.

Coming next month on MSNBC: Anger Off with Brianna Wu.

"I tell you I'm angry about this, Brianna."
"No, Joy, I am angrier."
"I'm at a 15, Brianna."
"LISTEN BITCH I AM ANGERIER THAN ANYONE EVER!"

To be fair, "I'm so angry I cut my own dick off!" is pretty hard to beat.

"I AM SO INCENSED THAT MY FAUX-GINA REINVERTED ITSELF BACK INTO A PENIS!"
It's probably why bri bri is so concerned about covid..cough hard enough and....boing

butting in but crap, I liked the vampire thing, esp the orthoganal epilepsy thing for lack of a better term. Not that it was some grand epiphany or anything, but a fun way to slip in the limit and the cross thing
I thought it was a fun stand in for a form of sociopathy which made for that type of outlier they were sending .

I sort of suspect the fetish comes from his being a marine mammal biologists and the "charismatic macrofauna" as we call them aren't really so cuddly when you get to know em. I read it as when you get to this level along that evolutionary line you get these opponent actors which I thought tied into the whole theme on conciousness as a parasitic property well.

It was echopraxia that fell flat for me a bit, maybe like how Blindsight was for you. It reminded me of Eddie Murphy - Delerious was great...Raw still had funny bits, but it felt he was trying to extend the franchise without enough material and latching on to types of bits that were supposed to be throw away

Shitting on the shoulders of giants.
John doesn't realize his boast doesn't really prove anything other than that Analog has been absolute trash for the last couple decades and that Frank Wu defiling the publication known for Asimov, Heinlein, Herbert, etc. just says how far it has fallen. This useless screaming infantile wife-beating degenerate chink would never have appeared alongside those eminences.
