Groups like CodePink have been calling for boycott pressure of EverySight glasses b/c they are Isreali military technology [it's an Elbit subsidiary] - the are HUD glasses. That's been going on for YEARS already.

Completely as an aside, SodaStream is slightly different as they use Palestinian labour because they can pay them less than Israeli minimum wages in a contested occupied city.

the thing is Don't Ask/Don't Tell was a PROGRESSIVE policy for it's time, it was the equivalent of 'we know we have great soldiers who are gay but you aren't passing gays in the military so if you're reasonably discreet it turns out our CO's are SO STRAIGHT they don't recognise homosexuality short of seeing two men bumming each other

I read an article today which featured an example of this in the UK from the 80s:

As a young man, Higgins had joined the navy. I ask Whitaker what he did. “He caused trouble.” He laughs. When he decided he wanted out, he and another sailor told the commanding officer that they were gay and had to be fired, because back then gay people were banned from the armed forces. “The commanding officer said: ‘Tough! We’re not interested and we’ll ignore you or punish you if you make a point out of it.’”

but no sensible commander wants to strip out good soldiers from a volunteer army because his first concern is having his men come back alive, and there's a long history of the military bond bridging gaps between social groups

the idea that the USAF were wasting resources witch hunting promising fighter pilots for potential homosexuality is utter bullshit

Hard Hitting investigative journalist John "Flinty" Flynt clearly read the actual piece and knows that the upheld law doesn't target individuals but contractors - that is businesses - who have accepted bids from the state government. They can also stick to their ideals but it'll cost them 20% of their bid. Its not a first amendment violation because of that and it doesn't restrict speech (you can still protest Israel and boycott those fucking kikes and their kikery on your own time)
(Though its a pretty shittily written law. It survived appeals because there hasn't been an actual test of it yet, the appeal is likely only sticking because the challenge is to the idea of the law and there is no provable harm as of yet - any actual enforcement is likely to run into legal challenges that will see it getting rendered practically meaningless.)

I thought we didn't want corporations to have the same rights as people? Or do not want that this week because its pride month and every western company has rainbow logos and is kowtowing to fags?

I've had to fill out forms that had literally every address I ever lived at (lmao like I remember that it took me days just to get it semi-accurate) and every job I ever had and if taken literally every person I ever met. My impression is they're not actually all that interested in that, they're just interested in whether you'll lie to them. Because for any position of any importance they already know all that shit if they're even interviewing you.

Well, considering just yesterday you didn't even understand the basic plot of two movies, I'm going to say... that there's nothing in the TOS or later that says women can't be starship captains. There's women in command before Kirk and Star Trek IV shows a woman admiral. The logical conclusion is merely that TOS didn't depict a woman captain, not that there couldn't be one. You can point to Lester's line and Kirk's acknowledgement but it seems more rhetorical than a statement of the law, much like how now if someone said "a woman can't be President" it's factually true that no woman is President (or has been) but it's not prohibited. (And one even nearly did become President just recently and we currently have a woman Vice President.) It's a statement about the pretensions of society, not the actual world of law and regulations. The more reasonable read of Lester's line is that she's critiquing the current practice and custom of Starfleet's administration. It's a boys club, but it doesn't have to be.

Funny that such a strong feminist woman like John doesn't take it that way and instead goes for some "geek cred" TECHNICALLY shit.
