Wu tweeted a 5 tweet chain about the new anti-viral drugs that have been approved to treat Covid. I think the context was somehow giving Frank credit for the discovery even though he doesn't work for either company, and even if he did, he's a patent agent not a research scientist.

Anyway, that chain is now deleted before I even saw it. And now she's posted this:

Not a single response I saw was any type of attack. There were, however, a whole lot of people telling Wu what she was saying about the drug's method of action was totally wrong.

Wu can't stop lying ever. This whole idea that Frank is selflessly saving the world, and taking a vastly reduced salary for it is just absurd. There's not a scientist in the world paid as much as Frank was when he was head of IP at Wave Life Science. I suspect he's earning less now he's been bumped back down to senior patent agent due to Wave being sold off for parts, but I bet he's still earning way more than any of the technical staff.

Also, the "dum dum left" seems to be Wu's new hobgoblin. I suppose there's only so long you can blame every single thing in your life on gamergate.

"Service" usually implies "public service" (aka government) not works in the industry like everyone else. Even if someone did personally bring the coronavirus to market like Frank did.

Hey, John, your husband's job is to help his employers finesse the legal system so they can gouge the living shit out of sick people for as long as possible. Like you, he's a worthless leech who contributes nothing to society. Once your revolution is upon us, he'll be standing right next to you in front of the firing squad.

I'd only disagree in that I think John will be put down by Animal Control.

Yes, the Bible: notorious for its depiction of Mary’s vibrator and King David’s pegging.
I would be very surprised to find a copy of the Bible in school. I suppose some teacher might have a copy of it somewhere, but there would absolutely be parent complaints if you could check out a copy through the library. They might still be brave enough to have a copy on the shelf, but I doubt it.

My kids' school won't even sing any Christmas song that has religious undertones at the "Winter" concert. They will, however, sing Jewish and Kwanza songs. Just not Christian ones. You get Winter Wonderland or Santa Baby or some other crappy holiday song because having teen girls sing about a sugar daddy buying her gifts for Christmas is more appropriate than having them sing about the Virgin Mary.

The only other patent agent that I know is a colleague from grad school who was an absolute narcissist that everyone hated and that barely knew anything about her topic. She only graduated because our PI fought tooth and nail for her against the thesis commitee, I assume out of some misplaced sense of feminine solidarity.
Funny how a job that consist of making sure that bjg corpos generate the maximum amount of money out of other people's ideas attracts greedy assholes and narcissists... really makes you think.

LOOK YOUSE GUISE! MORE OF MY GOZILLA LEVEL TECH SKILLZ! AND I DIDN'T TURN IT INTO AN NFT AND TRY TO PROFIT OFF IT LIKE ALL THOSE TECH BROS WOULD BECAUSE I'M SPECIAL AND NOT BECAUSE NINTENDO WOULD SUE ME BACK TO MY GAMESTOP JOB! PLEASE CANONIZE ME FOR SAINTHOOD!

Another dynamite week of...goddamnit what's the point of carrying on

So Professional Artist John has fired up the Trace function in Illustrator once again. Has he forgotten how badly this ended the last time, when he had to start raving about "inking passes" in a failed attempt to explain his non-existent skills?

The groundswell of overwhelming political support for new progressivism is palpable. Big changes are coming to America.

John is so modest that he's not mentioning that he's going to stop make multiple stops along the way, dropping off canned food and warm clothes at homeless shelters and orphanages.

Wu's spending for the year just on toys is now well north of the average US household income. Between the new Porsche, the three pinball tables, the $3000 macbook, that dumb robotic transformers toy, that stuff alone adds up to about $80K.

That's just the stuff she boasts about on twitter too. You know there's a constant hum of background spending. Thousands of dollars a year on every new release game she'll play for an hour then uninstall. Subscriptions to every TV streaming service. Doubtless Frank is still paying for Wu's membership to The Wing even though she probably hasn't gone there since opening day. Peleton, Gym memberships, dozens of other little service charges that Wu uses once and then forgets about.

Wu desperately needs a hobby or proper job. Her spending is pathological, like those shut in old ladies who compulsively buy from catalogues or TV shopping channels.

Nothing says "I take climate change seriously" more than driving all the way to Maine to pick up another pinball machine. Really cutting back on your carbon footprint there, John.

If the feds, or a warlord, or whomever can jack your blockchained assets doesn't really address the environmental issue that Johnnie was making at all. That's more about how sovereign we think it is .
I mean shit, (powerlevel) If our comms are going across waveguide nd other infrastructure (including power) then we are already under the thumb.

I don't know much about proof of storage, does it require that it runs on SSDs (as opposed the HDDs) etc and are they toast?
(do they ever use slack space, etc instead of whole farms. I always kinda wonder that about Proof of work too...anyone tried to harness the puzzles for brute force calcs of some utility?)

do we have an idea of what the relative power consumption is?
Like me just typing about this also burns power, but is it on the same league as the other solutions?

In proof of storage the memory is abstract so one could use any form of memory. one nice thing i that it isn't particularly access intensive and even less-so write, so it's relatively easy on flash memories or other memory technologies that wear on P/E cycles. (PoW is mainly writing the info to establish then validating that storage by checking a few random bits)
The hardware isn't "burned through"
One nice thing about being abstracted is the hardware (the mem) is general purpose...while PoW doesn't inherently require specialized hardware like graphics processors, the implementations define problem sets that can be targeted with specialized processors which is why that happens

but yes, the example of chia was simply an example of an up-and-running blockchain system not on PoW
There has been a surge in demand for storage in some areas due to that exploding, unfortunately that demand happens in any growth market.
and with markets, consortia tend to form "bitcoin pools" etc which are sort of like warlords. Power consolidation is a basic competitive behavior.
In the speculative mining market...it's interesting that the margins can lead to a derivativ market behavior. With PoW, for example the local power costs can determine the margins along with availability of specialized HW

wow, I don't know why this one just made John level-up to a new plane of asshole...but it did.

I don't fault ppl for having their toys and hobbies and wealth is somewhat relative.

Maybe it's that there is no thought to it beyond feeding the impulses or a repressed 14 year old boy.

He's kind of validating the failed male theory.
WARNING...this could put an image in your head that won't go away but

I'm pretty sure that Johnnie didn't want to be Princess Peach so much as he used to jack off to Princess Peach.

he's throwing, what, probably $7500 and a road trip at these machines and he seems to be buying them on the theme, not the table
I've never heard him mention any interest in pinball itself.
He's just that guy who goes in, throws down a bunch of cash he didn't make and say "which is the best one"
