Y'know, I always find the politically-obsessed a particular kind of hilarious. They blather on about how X is "a threat to our democracy" or how Y is "literally fascism" or comparing Z to Harry Potter. They build up an image in their minds of the great freedom fighter who's doing Important Work™, who's Making a Difference™. They can't simply shut it off and relax, because that's how the Nazis win!Who would have thought that there were emergencies even bigger than the rise of a Fourth Reich with nuclear weapons?

In reality...honestly, national and international politics are so far removed from your day-to-day life that you really don't need to be hyper-focused on them all the time. State and local governments have much more impact for their size, despite not being anywhere near as glamorous as demonstrating on the Capitol steps or getting a soundbite played on the news. While you should certainly pay attention to what's going on and speak out when you don't agree, the world isn't going to stop turning just because you didn't spend all day tweeting about those damn dirty fascists.
John's efforts are even funnier due to how meaningless they are. He makes big talk about how his ad campaigns are furthering the progressive cause, yet REEbellionPAC has backed the wrong horse every single time. If it disappeared tomorrow, there would be no measurable impact on the political landscape. John could easily drop everything and go back to his "passion," but he won't.
Beyond the surface complaints of "ugh politics," this sounds more to me like John throwing out an excuse as to why he's never going to have anything to do with game development again. He knows he has no skills of his own, and former employees have already made the rounds warning others not to get involved with him, so if he got anyone, it would be bottom of the barrel, more so than the first time around. His dreams of making another Space Bimbo Simulator are never going to come to fruition, and if anything did get made, he has such a huge target on his back from years of antagonizing the gaming community that it'd get torn to shreds immediately. So he throws up his Important Work™ as a smokescreen while also attempting to keep his woman-in-tech credentials fresh ("did you know I used to be a game developer?"). Pretty funny.
