God that was painful to read. I've rarely seen such a pitch of self-worship. Yes, I'm whoring myself out to the media against the wishes of everyone else involved who would rather put it behind them, but I have to do it you see. It's the only way to stop the forces of evil gathering from every corner of the Earth! I'm not doing it for me, perish the thought! I'm only thinking of others.

It doesn't even make sense. If there's one distinguishing characteristic of Trump rally crowds, or QBoomers and even Brexiteers, it's that they're old. It's a sea of balding heads and angry gammon faces. They're old coots frightened by the world them themselves created and are desperate for a Franco or a Mussolini to make sure their pension cheques arrive on time and that the skateboard kids stay off their lawns. These people aren't gamergaters, they're the people who call every game console "Nintendos."

This is a narrative made up by a person who's desperate for her one moment of fame to still be relevant the better part of a decade later, it's nothing to do with reality.

Not only does John expect people to believe that he turned down four "Hollywood" TV deals, he also expects us to believe that all of those projects were canceled when they couldn't get John Flynt onboard. But when a no-name production company in Seattle (aka Hollywood) and the screenwriter of the TV movie Camel Spiders came calling, he just couldn't say no.

Is John ever going to become even a halfway competent liar?
 
Honestly there is a version of this that could be very funny. To just play it in complete honesty.

The office segments would be exactly how John would direct them with the exact script he made, but all of the Gamergate troll segments are replaced with shit like Deaglenation that's still fake in universe plus other 4chan pranks. Like the season climaxes with a version where Jace actually does try to shoot the innocent Jurnos with a water gun in a dual at the local pool that's closed due to the non existent aids bioweapon they unleashed.

Regardless of the finished product, the Youtube Poop fodder will be worth the wait.

Was GamerGate that big of a deal to warrant a movie? I didn't follow it closely and while I use /v/ often I've always avoided GG stuff because I wasn't interested.
 
This attempt to draw a direct line from GG to antivaxers seems kind of tenuous. I feel like the real message is that the Internet can give marginal opinions greater traction by bringing people together, and all these different movements are a part of that.

It feels less like there’s a direct connection between these things, more that Brianna has to invent that connection in order to pad out her 15 minutes of fame.

No mainstream producer would admit it, but Wu’s bizarre unwillingness to admit that she was ever John Flynt in the face of all evidence is still hilarious. While everyone on her side engages in this Emperor’s New Clothes denial, even though they’re absolutely fine with trans women.

In the end not much came out of it, considering that the shit that motivated it in the first place is still around and going even stronger. In a twist of irony, both sides lost!

BriBri and other fellow professional victims lost their relevance, nobody fucking talks about these retards anymore, as such they have lost. The gamergate guys who wanted games to be dissociated from politics lost as well, given how the general consensus got even more politicized and polarized, you can't escape from the kind of horseshit that was forced upon everyone, and so they lost as well!

This is why Wu and the others never shut the fuck up about GamerGate despite it being dead for almost a decade, take it away and these people are what? Failed game developers and inocuous activists, nothing. Their narcissistic worldviews simply cannot cope with this, they have to be important! On an added layer of irony (we could make a cake out of this shit lol!), Wu is the one that would benefit the most from packing up and pretending this horseshit never happened, that Frank guy has money and they could simply be a happy couple of manbabies, spending their days in peace and indulging on their pleasures, but Wu has a massive ego that shuts this very idea down on principle lol!

Precisely. That guy with a sign is a very prominent example, he is a paid shill (of course) but he made an entire career of wearing the same outfit and posing for pictures holding signs with the least daring opinions possible!

There is irony in my posting of this on a website about poking fun on weirdos on the web, but the one downside of the internet is in how it allows for narcissists and other mentally unwell people to get their own audiences and gain wealth and fame from it. People that wouldn't normally get their shots at fame end up earning them, which is honestly a terrible thing lol!

Honest question: what do comic book sales look like these days? I've never been into them, so I don't have the first clue what makes financial sense. Is it driving sales, taking iconic characters and making them bisexual/muslim/whatever other minority group is popular?

They're looking not so great. From what I hear things are in decline in favor of manga and that's pissed off a fair number of comic purists. And on the other side of the fence people are saying bullshit because indie comics are still selling well. The only thing I can say with somewhat accuracy is that it's been on a decline for a while now.
