It is to a large extent the main source of the "anybody who voices dissent/disagreement at me are all monstrously evil and depraved and violent nazi harassers because some anonymous rando tweeted/emailed nasty words at meeee, and they need to be aggressively silenced and censored off the internet and IRL" narrativium which is still in high demand among all sectors of tech, media, politics, academia, and activism, even if shit pulled by all of the above groups before and after gamergate utterly dwarfed it in terms of perpetrating or aiding mass violent malice.

Furthermore its still one of the basic "toe the line on this shit or we will destroy your career" purity tests in these sprawls aswell, which means that there is literally zero drive by anyone to say "ok this is fucking stupid, it was just a generic fucking flamewar you absolute crybabies" given how it will give their friends and colleagues the perfect opportunity to publicly sacrifice them for their own social and career capital.

Nobody *actually* cares.....other than retards like Wu, but a lot of people still are incentivised to pretend they care.
 
Well in regards to my earlier post about people being silent. Zoe wants nothing to do with Wu's project, and was (supposedly) kept in the dark about it.

Ya know it really is unfair......on a 100% purely technical level....here.

Quinn did all the heavy lifting of sucking the dicks, farting the cum, and tickling the taints of greasy gaming media manlets for upwards of a decade and then had all her dirty laundry aired for the internet to rifle through, and then just as she was using her asspat network to give herself a new "victim of evil internet rape trolls" career, some gurgling tranny horror ghoul crowbars his way in front of the cameras and uses his screaming chink husband's own media backchannels to turn himself into the one true and honest victim of the gamergate holocaust solely due to a single edgelord tweet being sent at him.

Now quinn has had to watch all her ill-deserved fame and attention be pilfered away from her and she can do absolutely fucking nothing about it because her own antics have made her position in the in-crowd as tenuous as it gets despite "gamergate am bad" still being dogma there, and thus any war with the wus will probably result in her being dropkicked and forgotten.

Seriously, if you wanted to find an actual story of misogyny then this would be it. A woman does all the hard work for a project and then its abruptly taken over by some old white guy with money and connections who proceeds to take all the credit and reap all the rewards while she is forced to stay silent for fear of crossing him and thus losing what little he had yet to steal from her.

The fact this right here is a true example of how the fucking instigator of Gamergate, the one who straight up made THE GAME that kicked it all off (Depression Quest), got their shit stolen by somebody with better connections and also pretends to be a woman, is hysterical.

Honestly, I think Zoe's just pissed the fuck off that this isn't her show, because I damn well don't believe for a second she wouldn't be okay with this. She's just not okay with this being Wu's version. Or Wu having anything to do with it. She can't control the narrative anymore.

If this leads to some kind of feminist civil war over shit that nobody cares about anymore as of almost a decade ago, then that just shows what kind of cunts - both actual and artificial - have been on that side all along. No causes they truly believe in, they just trumpet them for attention and then quietly slink away to the next influence scam.

I don’t think this will get beyond the development hell. If so, it will get a laughably horrifying cast reveal on Twitter like the live action powerpuff girls. Then, it’ll be stuck in development hell until it’s cancelled due to the next project that kind of sounds good on paper.

When I hear somebody bring up gamergate, I just ignore whatever the fuck they were going to say. I don't care if they are pro or anti gamer gate or whatever, it's been fucking years anybody (sjws and die hard gamergate) that can't get over it by now is either trying to blame all modern day issues on gamergate (reductionist), profiting of it (grifter), or just stupid (idiot).

I care in a largely anthropological sense. For me and a lot of other people, GamerGate was a wakeup call. I considered myself left leaning, didn't pay attention to politics, and thought The Right was evil and behind the times. Then GG happened and I felt so backstabbed I flipped on pretty much all of that. So did many of my friends. It was, strangely, a huge turning point in my life and the lives of many others. Above all else it completely destroyed any faith I had in any source of information. Watching the entire News Media claim GamerGate was a bunch of racist sexist homophobes trying to kick women out of videogames over and over and over again for over half a decade really drove home how much they lie and the fact that they STILL bring up GamerGate just...boggles my mind. Blaming it for January 6th?! REALLY?! Then claiming THAT was "Worse than 9/11"?! Like cripes I feel like I'm being gaslighted every day by this crap! The worst part is knowing that many people BELIEVE the news and are well aware of my opinions on GG so now I'm actually afraid to talk to people lest they think I'm a brainwashed right-wing neo nazi.

I've spent many hours trying to figure out how to summarize the events of GamerGate in a way that makes sense and it's just not possible. Every single event and action taken in that debacle makes NO sense without an hour long explanation. It's a labyrinth of rabbit holes! I'd LOVE for someone to actually TRY and recap all the stupid shit that happened in GamerGate because there was a LOT. Many people overlook things like the moderator of /v/ also working PR for a game company while ALSO running a Game Journalist Convention where he gave speeches telling journos to turn their reviews into political propaganda because everyone already knows they're paid off for the game's ratings (and also sleeping with Quinn). Or Quinn ALSO sleeping with a guy who happened to be in charge of many of the indie game competitions she won. Or that the whole reason why "Gamers Are Over" rustled so many jimmies was because it was basically the entire game journalism industry saying "Actually, Jack Thompson was right."

Sorry, I'm rambling and being a sperglord but I did want to kind of give an example of why people "still care" in a sense.

Raz0rFist (sort of a cow in his own right, I know) has vlog series called "The Downfall of Video Game Journalism". It's the only reason I know anything about GG. He shows how the problem of games journos getting paid to cheerlead for games did not start with Quinn (such as Mass Effect 3 having an IGN employee in a voice acting role).

Oh absolutely! Good series! But that's not what GG was about.

See, back in the 90s and early 2000s, people claimed videogames made you a bad person and made people violent. Gamers and Game Journos both worked to discredit all the studies which tried to show a link between videogames and violence. Following this, many groups of people worked together to prove gamers aren't evil with things like Penny Arcade's Childsplay charity or Awesome Games Done Quick. This worked for a long while.

Then Sarkeesian showed up with a series that was basically going to be her "proving" that videogames make you sexist. She got backlash/harassment for this and the game journos yelled at gamers for it, taking Sarkeesian's assertations as the truth and never arguing with it. There was ONE good interview with her that proved she's an idiot that doesn't know what she was talking about and from that point on she never did another interview again, pre-screened questions ONLY.

Then a minor sex scandal with Zoe Quinn got some discussion online only for all discussion to be silenced across the internet. This seemed strange, people started digging, found some weird links and then suddenly 15+ websites all on the same day posted articles claiming "Gamers are Over". These articles basically said videogames make you a bad person and the PROOF was in how gamers harassed Quinn and Sarkeesian and heavily advised game developers to make their games less appealing to gamers so they can be kicked out of their own fandom and replaced with new people.

THIS was what kicked off GamerGate. Every gamejourno suddenly saying "Jack Thompson was right" and citing the same studies they debunked years ago to prove it. This was a problem because it gave a real excuse to censor videogames and attack the people who enjoy them. Journos basically backstabbed the entire fandom and ruined YEARS of work, setting us back decades. As such, gamers wanted them to take it back and apologize or get fired. Knowing their bosses approved of these articles, GG used "Ethics in Game Journalism" as a weapon, knowing FULL WELL that the game industry is almost comically unethical and they figured if you could PROVE that these people are unfit to do their jobs, they would be fired. With only a little digging people found more than enough to destroy the career of any so-called Journalist...or so we thought. Turns out all gamejournos were part of a clique where the only requirements to get and keep your job is to stay friends with everyone in the clique. As such they all worked together to slander gamers with constantly escalating rhetoric and there was basically nothing that could be done. A LOT of early GamerGate shenanigans involved trying to PROVE GG wasn't evil like donating to women in games charities, donating to a sea lion, donating to all sorts of shit...but we just got accused of "weaponizing charity" and the various charities were harassed into either refunding the money or giving it to anti-GG basically.

Basically, all the shit we see with movies and comics and shit going woke and turning on their fanbase? GG saw that coming and tried to stop it. That's what it was about. Unethical game journalism was a well known fact and just used as a tool to try and fight back.
