I think a lot of people donate to Brianna because, superficially, they believe she represents a bunch of ideals they themselves hold about fairness in society and that she'll promote certain types of far-reaching utopian ideals that are generally absent in mainstream politics.
It's notable though that almost all these true believers come away disgusted from any sustained contact with Wu. She has an extraordinary knack for pissing people off with her offhand dickishness and general air of someone who has no idea what she's talking about. Candidate Wu works fine as long as you never really examine who she is. She talks a good game for disaffected lefties disappointed that the Democratic party sucks corporate cock for election cash, but in the long run she's never going make any real inroads with the rank and file Democratic voter because eventually she'll have to actually meet them and talk about things she's going to do if elected.
Whether this actually matters to Wu is still a bit up in the air, the fact she's talking about campaign events at WWDC strongly suggest that the whole affair is a deliberate scam to skim money from idealistic rubes for her adventures and toys. I'm very much looking forward to her next financial disclosure, I strongly suspect the donations have fallen off a cliff and that we'll be seeing an end to candidate Wu sooner rather than later.
