Also, maybe I've been out of the loop for a while, but since when did North Korea have the missile technology to reach the US? Pretty much every missile test I've heard about from them has been an utter failure and it's honestly a small miracle they can potentially hit Japan.

NK has the KN-14 and the KN-08 missile launch platforms, both of which are theoretically capable of hitting the US, with the KN-08 theoretically possibly hitting DC.
I say theoretically because:
A) Those are the maximum theoretical limits of the technology, given perfect conditions
B) lol those crazy North Koreans can barely launch an empty box into the Sea of Japan
The real threat is that NK has a doctrine of opening with a nuclear volley in the event of actual conflict. That's really what everyone's worried about, not some hillbilly chinks lobbing empty boxes at us.
