Mathematically, you can win without gays as a voting bloc, so long as you don't trigger the dreaded "homophobic" label.

I agree that there would be a knock-on effect if you didn't support gay marriage or whatever, but the tweet I was mocking wasn't talking about a policy, or even anything Yang himself said:

My contention is that Teh Gayz will go the route of the black vote: taken for granted as the reliable voting bloc, to the point that they don't get any real policy proposals or attention. Yang could win an election without saying a single word to gays, as long as he supported gay marriage and gave the generic I Agree With Intersectionality answers to everything else.

(Right now, maybe he can't win the nomination without an appeal to black voters, because there are black candidates throwing race cards around to suck up votes in a 25 person field. But in a crazy Clown World timeline where Yang is allowed to get the nomination, he'll get that 90-95% black vote simply by having a D after his name and a Trump on the other side of the ballot.)
