I still can't get over the fact that people don't realise that you're a fucking dumbass with zero experience in cybersecurity or any other field.

She always gets drawn in by the worst clickbait.

These are air-gapped networks. They don't and can't connect to the internet. It'd be like you setting up an old Apple 2 from the 80's without a modem and worrying that someone was going to hack into it. It's not possible.

The only threat is someone physically coming in contact with these computers and doing something. So your concern should be whether you have proper physical security in the facility (guards, key cards, passcodes, etc). If anything in the DoD report was really a major concern, it would have been redacted.

She also seems to think programming languages are like smartphones. You need to upgrade every few years to the newest one. Fortran is used because these systems were originally written in it and it works. Why do you need to spend a ton of money to re-write something in another programming language when it works just fine in the current one?

Lastly, does she think the Representative from the 8th District in Massachusetts determines what programming language is used in the DoD? The DoD hires talented computer experts from all over the country. They recruit people from places like MIT all the time. Those are the people making the decisions on this stuff. And I'm sure their reasons are better than those of an unemployed college dropout.

Sorry for the sperg, I just hate the people who think this stuff is about having the latest iMac on their desk and not about building shit that fucking works.

The problem wasn't your lack of engagement with Facebook, John, but rather with reality.
Well that and thinking he could run on twatter vs being active in his district, reaching out to voters in person, and spending time working on endorsements.

He still hasn’t grasped you can’t lie your way to victory or fake it. Voters, the DSA, democratic organizations all know John is a disingenuous piece of shit.

The reason we have poor electronic security on our guided missile systems is because they aren't networked to anything. To "hack" them would require physical access, and if an attacker has unmonitored physical access to the systems, 2-factor or encryption or whatever isn't going to make much difference.

The other issue is the amount of testing that goes into making sure the hardware in weapons systems can stand up to the rigors of battle deployment. Most equipment in the space program runs off of 486s because that's the hardware that has been certified to not get fried by ambient cosmic radiation, flip a bit, and kill someone. It will take years to get anything else tested as rigorously. Same thing with military tech systems.

I'm pretty sure Brianna thinks all these decisions are made by councils staffed by politicians with law and business degrees, who then just tell their underlings what to do, instead of highly educated and intelligent people who really just need the suits to sign off stuff.
That's why she thinks her (non-existent) degree in engineering gives her a massive advantage over everyone else in Washington, when the reality is, she'd be a far worse politician because Brianna is the exact sort of person who thinks she knows everything and will talk down to anyone who says otherwise. If she ever actually got to the mythical, all-powerful councils she wants to be a part of, she'd be talking down to MIT and OxBridge graduates like they were underlings at one of her stillborn start-ups.

Oh thanks for that input John, who else do you think should be a part of the PoC Master Race?

What about mySQL salting and hashing John, how could you forget that?

That's our Mississippi John, always right on the important issues that really matter to Americans. We need a man like this in Congress for sure.

LOL, didn't Brianna once try to reach to the "Asian community" via shitty cards written in Chinese or something? Which tells us that she thinks all Asians are exactly the same and not to be distinguished?

I'm curious what all the roving posses of KKK horsemen looking to perform a-lynchin' and a-cross burnin' in his school and hometown thought about him and this newly mentioned "sweetheart" of his going around holding hands as a shining example of gay teenage romance in dark ole chain rattling and bullwhip cracking Mississip'?

Lol at john spewing keywords.

Https: ok
TLS: part of https,but ok
MD6: used by no one ever
SSL: long long outdated
"key transport protocols" : no such thing

The rest are ok but john does not know what they mean anyway

Yea im gonna call BS on all that. I imagine WU got hooked on ambien cause it was the best thing in his parents or friends medicine cabinet. I find it tough to believe a doc would prescribe it for "heart break"

Ambien is the shittiest of the benzodiazepines, it's a powerful hypnotic that causes anterograde amnesia so the fun factor might not be that great, rohypnol might be understandable and it was actually on the market back then which makes it fit the timeframe. Admitting to having an addiction to what is most commonly known as a date rape drug doesn't look good though.

If it was ambien there must have been other things involved, maybe booze to turbo-charge it. Tolerance builds up extremely quickly so the dosage must be increased and if it was used in a way befit for an addict then even at a low tolerance many pills would be used a day. Wu getting a 30 day prescription and returning for another one in four days, getting a new 30 day prescription and returning after three days, most doctors would figure out what was going on. Wu is either exaggerating the Ambien story, there is more to it and/or he bought loads of pills from a dealer.

Comparing it to the opioid crisis is just weird, it should be compared to the Xanax/benzo situation because that shit will give you brain damage over time. A recovering hardcore Xanax addict is a terrifying thing to see.
This could have been used as an opportunity for Wu to highlight that there's a larger prescription drug problem but meh, if it bleeds it leads, so let's jump on the opioid bandwagon to get more likes and retweets!

Since you insist on repeating this stupid fucking bullshit, John, I get to recycle one of my favourite jokes.

A statistician tells his colleague that he is terrified of flying. When asked why, the statistician responds that the probability of there being a bomb on a flight is simply too high for him to stomach.
Some time later, the colleague is surprised to meet the statistician at the airport. "What changed your mind?" he asks the statistician.
"Well, I did some research into the probability of there being two bombs on a flight, and it's remarkably low," the statistician replies. "Therefore, I started carrying one in my own suitcase."

Well my other theory is Wu just blamed the ambien addiction on being a complete failure n used it as a excuse n went off to rehab.and then was like wow all better now mom n dad that ambien stuff is bad can i have some more cash to open my game studio or w/e now.

If she ever actually got to the mythical, all-powerful councils she wants to be a part of, she'd be talking down to MIT and OxBridge graduates like they were underlings at one of her stillborn start-ups.

True Story (forgive the length):

Be me. In a meeting with the DOD IT director (let's call her Edna) for a worldwide clinical lab testing contract. She and her team are here to inspect our systems, including the Sun SPARCstation that's running an SQL database that clients dial into.

There'd been a ten-minute outage two weeks prior; the Sun had to be restarted because of something the coders were doing while implementing some final changes.

The outage resulted in a flurry of paperwork between us and DOD, and was part of the pretext for her flying in from Washington with her posse. (She'd also never been to Mall of America and had an epic shopping trip planned.)

When we got to the subject of the outage, Edna started asking what she thought were pointed questions about what went wrong. We explained that it was a necessary restart, and to be expected because the project had been fast-tracked and still being coded while it was up and running.

She listens to us, and then, after a dramatic pause, asks, "Do you think maybe the C: drive needs to be reformatted?" She has a look of triumph on her face, for she has shown not only that she knows the tech, but brought up something we'd never considered, albeit not for the reasons she thinks.

My boss immediately kicks me under the table, which means "STFU and smile and tell her you'll look into it." Which is what I did, duh.

This is exactly what John would be with that power: the person interrogating and annoying actual experts and asking them if they "flashed the bios". Any pushback or indication that it was an idiotic question would then provide him the perfect opportunity to start screaming "misogyny" and "toxic masculinity that devalues a woman's expertise".

TL;DR Fuck diversity hires.

The tranny once claimed that Frank would get his father to write an open letter supporting the last campaign and have it published in the local Chinese language newspaper in their part of Massachusetts. Of course, Frank not being on speaking terms with his family, we never heard this develop into anything concrete.

I need to stop reading this thread when I relax, Wu's techno babble bombs are devastating my already tired mind.

Retro-fitting current tech into legacy solutions is a mark of a noob who never did shit in real life. It's just too risky to meddle with a well understood thing, even if it's not as good as it could be. Why would anyone cram 2FA into air-gapped, computational only, machines.

Most of those things come with heavy security protocols anyway, it's not like you can just walk into a base and type
Code:
> NUKE SHIT
on readily available terminal.

I'd be far more scared of any military appliance developed by harebrained IoT people, they have all the tools Wu's speriging about and they get a simple wire-protocol for electric switch so wrong, you can turn a fucking "Internet enabled" on/off button into a botnet.

TL;DR Fuck off, Wu.

To get that 2FA going the missiles would have to be hooked up to the internet. Small step for a Wu but a great leap forward in national security.

People thinking like Wu is why we have light bulbs DDOS:ing people and refrigerators that for some reason doubles as unsecured WiFi access points. I read a story about a man that installed a bunch of smart home products, including a smart lock for the front door that could be controlled by Siri. One morning while getting into his car on his way to work his neighbor comes out and asks if he can borrow a cup of flour, the man says 'sure' but explains that he's in a hurry, 'no problem, I'll let myself in' the neighbor says and yells "Hey Siri, unlock the door" and the door unlocks. That and the dildo that collected personal information and broadcast video is IoT in a nutshell.
