Asking why Barbie is smiling is like asking why a GI Joe has a gun. Barbie's a fantasy, a dress-up simulator--why in God's name would you want her glowering at you while you're trying to get her shoes on? Nobody wants to be judged by a hunk of freaking plastic.

I still don't get why Barbie gets so much hate from feminists. I was never a Barbie kind of girl growing up (I always wanted Action Man. And I got one
) but didn't Barbie have over a hundred careers? What's the problem here? Are feminists pissed off because she dared to be happy and attractive while being a vet/teacher/firefighter/ambassador for world peace!? She wasn't a chubby, scowling and vindictive woman with mild bi-polar disorder and that somehow makes her a bad person?

Because GI Joe is Problematic, comrade. It's full of men (and women, but that's just internalized misogyny, so they don't count) using violence and phallic symbols (what else would you call a knife? Huh?) to oppress other people in the name of the American cishetero dudebro patriarchy. Such things are beyond redemption and should not be given smiles, lest children are encouraged to think that being part of the cispatriarchy is fun.

It's especially funny that aside from a small circle of people at wikipedia it's barely worth the trouble to even try and edit anything except for the most obscure articles.
