I'm curious as to why this is important; we all know Wu was part of the "inner-circle" so what difference would it make to know she was aGGro before GG really took off?

Not sarcastic; watching Wu squirm is a hobby of mine.

We establish something beyond a shadow of a doubt and we get more ammo. Can't decide if that makes us look more or less crazy.

Almost every community watching Wu has thought she's nothing more than a controversy-riding charlatan.

This much has not changed with this possibility.

However, if it is true that Wu herself was directly involved with Alexander beforehand, then not only was Wu knowingly trollbaiting going into this, but she did so with malice aforethought. This is the point where Wu goes from being someone who seized on an opportunity to stretch 15 minutes of fame into half an hour to someone who did literally every action she took knowing full well what she was doing, and why.

The closest analogue I can think of is when we did the Vade article, and we learned that Kenneth's death was no tragic accident.

It also answers, perhaps, what I feel is the biggest question of all: how the hell does Wu have this much power and influence by her lonesome? Even Zoe Quinn hasn't been as proficient at getting on the news as Brianna Wu has. Yet every day, Wu makes headlines and meets with movers and shakers. We've always assumed that Wu was a literal nobody - some random crazy MTF amongst a sea of crazy MTFs we've covered, notable only for her willingness to shove her head into the proverbial thorns. But if she really was involved with this from the get-go?

Suddenly, everything is fucking explained. Why she was able to suddenly have her every word hung on like it was gospel. Why we suddenly had dozens of outlets covering our dear Commander Stryker. Why she was able to leap, seemingly out of nowhere, amidst all the professional victims on Anti-GG, and seize herself a leadership position.

If this was planned, this explains so much about Wu, and paints her in an infinitely more sinister light. Think about it: Suddenly, her meteoric rise to power makes perfect sense: It was planned. Wu suddenly becoming the biggest victim in Gamergate? She stuck her nose into the fire, sure, but there was a fucking framework perfectly ready and poised to make use of Wu's own tendencies. Third party trolls came down on Wu especially hard, but Death to Brianna was working for Something Awful - which we already know to be essentially supporting the Antis in everything but name.

That's why I'm convinced that if there's something here, we need to find it.

If you put it that way Brianna is just the puppet of something/someone more sinister, something that is there to make a point, he exist as the almost de facto leader of the antis and do almost all in his power to remain relevant, but at the same time his blinding light of stupidity and obvious troll bait is just a facade so the other people who his behind him manage to push their agenda using him as a distraction

Just let's put it this way, the antis were more or less predicting gamergate, they needed someone to act as a visible enemy to the progg, someone who has no previous records of being a moron and willing to do anything for attention, they find Johnny boy and put him on stand by, then Gamergate exploded and our professional victim make her appearance and suddenly everyone hate him in a daily basis

I'm not making any judgement calls yet, but I am extremely interested to see what turns up from a little examination. Wu has always had a knack for manipulation, and is deeply connected to a lot of other professional victims. Is it so odd to believe that she played a bigger part than expected?
After all, she seemed almost eager to declare herself as "THE MOST HARASSED WOMAN IN GAMERGATE".

Nah, Wu's totally one of those "final boss" types who ends up only being the major boss you fight 50% through the game before some major plot twist reveals the REAL final boss.

But yeah, this just goes to show that the real threat Wu embodies is in fact those who are smart enough to know not to be fucking attention whores - just look at where all of those exceptional individuals have ended up.

I believe some more research should be done into the people who gave Wu those dumb-ass awards for R60. No better way to put somebody as commanding and nearsighted as Wu in your back pocket if handing out worthless awards makes them feel all special and shit. It's the carrot and stick, in a way.

We've spent almost 300 pages discussing Wu's incompetence. Do you really believe that she'd be able to pull something like this off let alone manage to keep her part in this hidden scheme a secret for more than five minutes?

Wu just happened to know the right people when shit went down. That's all there is to it. Maybe there was some precursor to GG within the Indie community that clued people into the fact that something was about to break, but a full-blown conspiracy? The level of planning and coordination required to pull off what you're suggesting is astounding and especially with the amount of hacking that's been going on during this whole fiasco the chances of keeping this conspiracy a secret are minimal to none.

And what money? Wu has wasted it all on her vanity project. She and Frank are living in a house that a relative is letting them stay in for free and she can't afford to staff any actual employees. Wu spends like she has all the money in the world, but in the end she's living paycheck to Patreon paycheck. She probably gets some kind of compensation from the people who invite her to speak at cons and whatnot, but Wu is not in a good place financially. She is broke, simple as that.

I know it's appealing to think you're on the cusp of uncovering some grand conspiracy, but there is none. These people are scam artists who all jumped on a golden opportunity the moment it surfaced.

All right, all right, before this swirls further into conspiratorial territory, let me lock this shit down by pointing out the greater credibility of these possibilities, and more to the point, the real reason any of us should give a shit. First, in response to the accusation of conspiracy theories: We've already had three confirmed ones since Gamergate started (Game Journos Pro, 4chan and Moot, and Dan Golding), of which Leigh Alexander is tied to two. I'm not saying that it's fine if people suggest conspiracy, but I am sure as hell saying there's a precedent if someone wants to suggest that.

That said:

I agree with you insofar as Wu herself is a fucking idiot and any handlers involved with her are just as fucking stupid. But if it is true that she was prepped for this from the get-go, then it really helps contextualize a lot, especially in regards to the Wu article. It codifies that Wu's really always been like this, and moreover, likely always will be like this.

But the biggest reason this matters if it's true is painfully simple and straightforward: It also makes her failures infinitely more hilarious.

Just think about it: It's one thing if Wu were just a nobody who hit upon a gig as many suspect, and fucked that up, but if she had the deck stacked for her beforehand and still fucked it up? That's amazing. That really serves to drive home just how much of a fuck-up she is, and frankly, makes her inevitable comeuppance all the more amusing.
