Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me like they're using the industry average sell through rate or whatever for free-to-play mobile games, which typically make their money from "whales" (people who will drop a ton of cash over and over on f2p games).

Seeing as rev60 is more like a full game with a one time purchase, 20000 sales is pretty goddamn pathetic for a game with such an overblown budget, and by no means anywhere close to making ends meet, let alone turning a profit.

Wu's grasp on the concept of finances seems tenuous at best. She has this childish idea that having money = I can buy all the nice things. She doesn't appear to operate on any sort of a budget and given her lifestyle I'd be surprised if even half of that 400k actually went towards making R60. Honestly, I doubt Wu knows exactly where all that money went.

So I wouldn't be surprised if Wu sees every sale as a "profit". As in she started with zero and could only go up from there, not factoring in the money she's already sunk into development as an initial loss.

Yeah I've noticed there are black holes where Wu could obviously play up for sympathy except they're her *ACTUAL* issues and she acts like most people would, hiding them, not thinking about them, not talking about them. I'm actually shocked that 22% of game developers are female! 22% of EE/CS/SE/CE grads are not female. Even fewer females exist in highschool programming clubs and things like that... maybe you get 22% participation at maker fairs and things like that.

What this tells me is that some undefined but large number of people go into CS because they want to make video games (dumb) but it's a highly competitive pipe to go down and so if you do get your foot in the door they just work the fuck out of you because you're lucky to be there and then spit you out after you're chewed up..... this tells me that women actually have an advantage in this selection process to become a game developer.

I also think it's really dumb they're pointing out girls like playing video games but they're not getting to make them. The two things are NOTHING alike!

Even though inexperienced people get paid less...
Even though the hiring priority was "female" instead of "skilled"...

This developer is definitely getting paid peanuts. 40K a year is bullshit wages for that skillset. If you can program without completely sucking at it, you can pull down twice that at any software company in Boston. And there are a lot around there.

I was young and stupid once, so I understand how she probably bought into the idea of "bad wages upfront, but a piece of all revenue." Even if this developer were to get half all of the revenue SKG gets, she'll still being shafted.

She might be afraid to leave, or think a payday is right around the corner, or have signed a real shit contract that says she only gets her share of revenue (or, even worse, "profits") if she keeps on working at her slave wages.

I understand, like I said, I was young and stupid once. But she should stop letting herself be taken advantage of. Put out some resumes and get some offers and realize you can stop scraping by.

Oh god I did my math for like 1 year with 400k but I forgot they've done this for 4 years. The most generous estimate I can muster is that frank kicked 400k, patroen on it's best day is 40k, and let's just go crazy and say r60 make 100k cause we know that's too high and we're ignoring all expenses or attempts to pay frank back his life's work.

That would give everyone a salary of 45k/year. In boston and at least one of them went to school and has a high paying skill. God I hope this makes her resume like gold.

Not only they they have like 5 essentially 5 artists and 1 programmer. I think the wu's can code but it's not clear how well, It can't be anything professional quality I know that much. Of course that's going to mean lots of mistakes and shit too.

So they could have hired 2 programmers at recent grads who will do anything to be game dev prices but instead they hired 2 artists. Just for context: This line games right after Jess literally has Bart steal money from her father. So yeah, double checks out.

Tapped Out's one of those games, I don't have it but I still follow it. Mainly because unlike the show they actually bother more with minor characters. Like, actually giving some of the other kids something to do (that are cute and/or amusing too) rather than Pimping the guest star of the week.

Though given that Wu's a nobody really, Jess was probably trying to play the Sarkeesian card.
