You mean that Wu had a justifiable opportunity to play victim and... she just chose not to?

Having a very close transgender friend that I have known before and after her transition who grew up in the south with a family who hated her choices....I would guess Brianna is not focusing on this aspect due to the wealth of her family. Speculatively, it could also be because her family never truly rejected her in the nature that many transgendered people are forced to deal with, specifically in the south.

This is just my opinion, but if Wu has a chance to play the victim, she will, absolutely. If there is something she feels will put her in a bad light it will be overlooked entirely. I will presume she will focus on her family history in the same manner as the rest of her 'public figure' routine. SIGH

It's funny how much of an irredeemable jerk that article paints her as. "After her wealthy adoptive parents, whom she had despised since birth, spared no expense to save her life from a self-inflicted downward spiral of drug abuse, she repaid them by cutting all ties! You go, girl!"
When really, the truth of the matter, that she was disowned for being transgender, might have earned her some actual sympathy. This is what we call an unforced error.

Keep in mind that the only source we have for Brianna Wu being disowned is Brianna Wu. While it's totally believable that a couple from Mississippi will disown their daughter for being transgender, I still have a hard time trusting Wu without a credible source corraborating her version of events. Wu's biography at Giant Spacekat's website also says she was disowned by her parents, but in this version of the story it's for becoming a liberal and pro-LGBT in her views. This sounds very unlikely to me, I just can't believe that there are parents who will disown their daughter solely for those reason (but than again maybe I just don't know enough about America). I'm guessing that Wu has realized how far-fetched this story is and so decided to stop using it.

Once more, Brianna's story continues to mutate. From the Inc. article:

At Ole Miss, Wu studied journalism and wrote for The Daily Mississippian, but she never graduated. She left school the first time to start her own video animation company, came back, and dropped out for good in 2001 after getting swept up in the excitement surrounding George W. Bush's election as president.

This is not concurrent with her Linkedin profile, which says she studied at Ole Miss from 2003 to 2008. Likewise, Brianna attests in Only Fools Mess with Brianna, written in July 2006, that she was still in college at the time that story was penned. Brianna being a student at Ole Miss during 2002/2003 is attested by a former student who knew her; another student confirms she was still studying at Ole Miss during 2006.

When Milo wrote his article about Brianna's past at Susan's and Ole Miss, I thought she would use it as an opportunity to make herself into a transexual martyr persecuted by the bigots of GamerGate. Little did I realize that Brianna is doing her utmost to deny being trans; apparently the thought of having been born as a male and having lived the majority of her a life as sich is something she wishes not to accept. This is why she refused to tell her sexual partners about her past as a man, or why she does not wish to associate with other transexuals. Since August 2006, Brianna has been going "stealth" (read: deluding herself into believing she passes). Her need to deny her transexuality is so strong she was willing to pass what could have been a great opportunity to play the victim.

So, @NegaCWC, we agree that the parental oppression sounds BS? Seems like it from our posts.

I'm not totally sure actually. As I've said in the previous post, Brianna's past claim of having been disowned for transexuality is not unbelievable. Her family is from Mississippi after all; her parents would have most likely had some kind of an adverse reaction once they learened she was a transexaul. With that being said, the discrepancies I've spotted in her stories are so numerous that her word has lost all value to me. Reconstructing Brianna's past should mainly be done by sources not reliant on her (such as those Ole Miss alumni who wrote about how crazy she was). Brianna's statement are only a good source for what she says about herself and for what kind of image she wishes to project at a given time.

The Ole Miss link is not working for me.

This also ties into what we know about Wu's past from her associates, which is that Wu was renown as an inveterate liar even in these days. There are multiple cases of her claiming to be amnesiac from being stabbed in the head, and of her being oh-so-oppressed from being in the south. Both of these go with her own manipulative streak (claims to flirt with straight men and being entirely convincing at it, for example), and her own tendency to self-aggrandize. When we pair it with her own attempts to self-victimize, it becomes abundantly clear that Wu is an exceptionally deceitful person and one that any rational individual would recognize as a charlatan in short order.

Brianna Wu vs The Troll Army said:
She knows some potential investors will be put off by her notoriety, but she thinks others will see her as their entrée into a lucrative market at an opportune moment in the gaming industry.

Wu is a controversy-milking opportunist, of Vade-esque proportion.

Fixed that for you.
