I'm all for more diverse games being made, but can we stop acting like shit like the pregnancy game are groundbreaking achievements and deserve an Oscar (because they're so speshul that they deserve a film award)? They're not that great.

I am too, but I am not for calling digital Choose Your Own Adventure Books "games".

If I write a short story and program a GUI so that you can click to turn the pages, I didn't just make a video game.

No, what you made was one of those simple-as-hell kiddie computer novels for Arthur or The Berinstien Bears.

But even those actually had mini-game activities and actual work put into little easter eggs on every single scene page from what I recall, which is far more than somebody trying to pass off literally something that could have been taken out of those dumb-ass common sense programs that colleges put students through during their first year. Having jumped around three colleges and having to have done a "rape prevention" course that was more vague than my 7th grade health class during the two months we covered sex ed, this is exactly the kind of thing "Depression Quest" and now "Pregnancy" resemble, except with nothing but self-glorification of the devs behind them.

I wonder how much money is to be made with such pretentious hipster shit. It seems "gamejournos" and wumans will hype anything, as long as there is some tumblrina message on top of it.

How about making a jpg, white background and a black dot in the center? "DOT - A Journey into your Mind: This is dot, a pixel of color. Imagine, what dot goes through in this world void of color, imagine its daily struggle, solve its problems. The first videogame that's all in your head." I demand a metacritic rating of 100 now, or everyone is a commienazi shitlord.

Or Jay Geis trying to draw crotch armor.

I love how she uses "gamer bro" as an insult.
I never saw words like "dude bro" or "gamer bro" as a negative thing, but more like a term of endearment of bros being bros with each other.

As for the pregnancy game, I'll have to play it first to see if it realy deserves to be greenlighted game, or if it's just shovel ware that can just be hosted in it's website since it has no value whatsoever.

The worst part about it is this is their answer to the problems in gaming.
It's like some super religious parents getting mad at their kid's taste in music, so they take away his CDs and give him an audiobook NIV Bible as an alternative.

I'm not particularly a gamer (don't kill me), but shouldn't the fiction of the game be a gateway to the real truth the devs want to communicate? (I think they call that empathy.)

If it's just bald-faced reality, there's really not much of a journey, just the game prodding you along, especially if there's an agenda -subtle or otherwise -behind it.

You hit the nail on the head. All these SJW games are like those shitty religious games fundies make so that kids can have something "just as good" but which teaches about JEEEEESUUUS.

People who think Twine is ushering in a new game making renaissance believe their games are like this

What their games really are like is this

I really can't get over Wu's hypocrisy on this one. Antis get a game literally kicked off steam: the will of the people manifest! Normal gamers make fun of a shit game because it is shit: censorship!

I find this level of cognitive dissonance fascinating. It's like some kind of buddhist koan: is Brianna Wu stupid, or duplicitous? Or, perhaps more specifically, is she being self-contradictory in a self-serving manner consciously, or subconsciously? If you contemplate this long enough you will clear your mind of all thought.

Maybe Letting the consumer decide in the end? Thats is not the whole point of greenlight?
Being frank, I will not mind both games in the store... less than stellar games have been greenlighted and this seems a petty "gameplayVsSubject" fight.

(Also, maybe let Steam have a adult section given the rise of VN? )

Alright, final part for now, as I'm gonna bring this incident as one post.

So apparently... another game is out on Steam Greenlight, and Wu is sperging about "muh Gamebros" (and GamerGate even though GG was never mentioned at all in the comments in the game page, but who cares!) . So apparently if Hatred is removed from Greenlight, it's perfectly fine, but when people criticise a game she liked on Greenlight, it's "restricting creative freedom".

But hey, how about we take a look at this game before we jump to conclusions?

So apparently it's another choose your own adventure game, but this time it takes the role of a 14-year old being raped and later getting pregnant. So you have to make choices to either abort the baby or stay with the child.

Here are the selected comments I have taken from the comments page from the Greenlight page. I'll leave it up to you to decide for this game.

"Gamebros". What does she mean with that? People who play video games?

I digress, you missed a comment
