Don't you just love happy endings?
Gotta admit, it has been interesting watching her becoming increasingly manic as time goes by, but I worry it's kinda wrapping up. I always find people tend to double down on the delusional thinking the closer they are to ruin. As the point approaches where even her supporters are going to start asking where the game is, we've watched her become even more antagonistic than usual, make wild claims about some unspecified game-changer she's going to build with million of dollars, and just gradually lose that edge she used to have.
Take a look back to the Brianna Wu of a year ago and compare. Where's that defiance? Where's the smug condescension? I remember a girl (kinda) who spat how this was her culture, not ours, and she'd take it by force.
Now we have a bitter, paranoid misanthrope with a failed game and a Napoleon complex. She's still got some entertainment left in her, but I worry the fun is nearing the climax.
The good cows never do last, do they?
I called it a while back in the topic, but Wu's entire relevance was basically tied to GamerGate when it was this hot button issue that she could leech off of and get attention for. Since it's stopped being relevant to all but the most delusional and insane of people, she's desperately flailing for attention since Revolution 60 is barely a household name for even gamers and those who do know about it call it a laughingstock, and Spacekatgal as a company barely has any kind of footprint. All that she's really been known for is "Brianna Wu, the Brave Anti-GG Speaker Advocating Women's Rights in Gaming," and now that GamerGate and the whole misogyny issue in video games has basically began to cool off and stop being a thing in the media, she's become irrelevant. She is, for all intents and purposes, a gallant white knight in an era of fucking miniguns. She's irrelevant and no one cares about her.
It's why she brought back up Revolution 60 despite it so obviously not being ready for a release (and showed when the deadline lapsed). It's why she's suddenly bringing up all of these dead arguments and other controversial statements. It's why she's itching so badly for a fight and going to interviews left and right. If she doesn't try to make her name show up
somewhere, then we're probably looking at the end of Brianna Wu as a media figure.
And she hates that. She's put all of her eggs into the GamerGate basket and it's gone and fucking broke, but instead of trying to find another basket she's trying desperately to scoop up the yolk and put it in the small remnants that even constitute a basket. She has no fallback plan, no second recourse. Wu
is Wu, and if the world forgets about her, then it's basically all over.
What we see is a bitter, sad individual who is picking fights with random passerbys while screaming her name at the top of her lungs as though it matters to anyone. Unless GamerGate somehow gets some huge shot in the arm I don't expect to see her having even a fraction of the media presence she has now by the end of 2016. At this point, she's better off just quietly stepping out of the limelight and picking some sort of job outside of the games industry. Her reputation is in a bit of a shitter, yes, but if she still has some amount of finances behind her she can basically scrape together an average, middle class life and fall out of the public eye. The only thing preventing that is Wu's ego.
And we all know Wu's ego would never allow her to be anything less than relevant.
