One of the main characters in FFV is a girl that everyone thinks is a boy. Brianna is a boy that nobody thinks is a girl. No wonder he has trouble identifying with the characters.

The overall story is kinda meh though. Fairly generic badguy with vague backstory.
The job system has some balance issues but is pretty good overall. The bad part for is the fact that the endgame class is just Freelancer/Mime. Theres just no choices to make once you reach that point and thats not what a free choice class system should be about. Also the DualWield/Rapid Fire/Spellblade combo and Dualcast Bahamut are OP and essentially edge out all other abilities so the balance is off there too. FF Dimensions was much better in both situations aside from the Memorist class.

Also did she stop soon after the North Mountain? The fuck... She didnt even get into ANY of the characters' backstory. Thats like stoppping a FF6 playthough before getting to Lethe River. Or stopping an FF7 playthough before getting to Shinra Headquarters

The story is cheesy shit that doesn't take itself seriously. You fight a goddamn evil tree, and he's a gloriously hammy villain. Personally I loved a return to something lighter after the gloomfest that was IV. And the heavier scenes like the one you mentioned are done fantastically.

Not sure why she even commented on story though, because she clearly didn't get through any of it. She also failed to comment on the three badass main female characters (THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS, A GAME FROM DECADES AGO WHICH HAD MORE FEMALE CHARACTERS THAN MALES, HOLY COW!), each one distinct and capable.

It's not an exact or perfect thing, but if you look at her trophy information for the PS3/4 and Xbox 360 you can see that the only Final Fantasy games she's invested any significant amount of time to are Final Fantasy XIII (which she might have actually beaten) and XIII-2 (decent amount of time but not sure if she's beaten because I know little about the game). She may have played Final Fantasy X and X-2 for a combined total of 2-3 hours just from looking at her achievements for the games.
