I'm not very tech saavy. Certainly not a software engineer, but I've built my own computer. It's not hard.
Flynt truly is the Godzilla of women in tech.

"I'm a software engineer"
This has to be a troll. A software dev/game dev that can't figure out how to build an oculus machine?

Yes it's also most definitely a humble brag he bought an oculus with his Kickstarter/patreon money.

Wu was literally giving a lecture on how VR devices can be used for "unconscious bias training" i.e. brainwashing people of problematic ideas.

That's the amusing things about socjus totalitarian types. They think that in the world they long for they would be the alphas dictating everyone else when in reality since they have no skills they'd be the sub omegas laboring in the fields.

The idea that Flynt/Wu is capable of building a computer is laughable. He can barely walk in his surgically and chemically altered tranny body. Fine motor skills are almost certainly nonexistent. There's also a good chance that he'd shock the living shit out of himself while spastically poking around inside anything powered by the notoriously transphobic Reddy Kilowatt, after which he would add "electrical engineer" to his CV.

In the end, he'll just buy a Lenovo Ideacentre Y700 or another machine from this list, all of which are optimized for Oculus Rift, and claim that he built it.

Once he has his new computer and his VR software, there will be an intense e-begging campaign for funding of his next project, followed by . . . wait for it . . . nothing.

I know a bunch of software developers who have no desire to build a rig. It's a bunch of specialized knowledge that distracts from their current specialized knowledge, and that knowledge about hardware becomes obsolete pretty quickly.

All that said, it's pretty easy to build a machine. Loads of mansplaining tutorials have been written to walk you through every step.

This reminds me of the time that the NFL said that VR should be used to train their players not to beat their wives. There are a lot of similarities between John and the NFL on this, as neither is in a position to teach other people about what their own biggest failings are. John needs to have empathy before he can teach people about it.

This is a dumb post tbh but the screenname and avatar make up for it so you get a pass.

Those are people who for every minute they spend diddling with hardware, they lose a minute doing their actual work.

And there is no shortage of intro level tech workers who put together machines cheap.

But it wouldn't cost John a dime to do a simple Google search and then some minor manual labor. Other than that John is too fucking incompetent to even do that.

Considering the first thing people do after they get bored with the "cute little doggy" in Valve's VR demo is think up ways to kill it, I doubt it's really going to be all that great at teaching empathy.

It will just provide a safe outlet for people's sociopathic impulses and/or produce shitloads of animu and other fetish porn.

It looks like AltConf 2016 has learned how you deal with having Flynt/Wu on a panel: One microphone and you don't get to squeal about oppression if you don't have the mic. If you don't have the mic, you keep your damned mouth shut. It must have been torture.

Here's Flynt/Wu on this year's Games Discussion Panel -- seven white guys and one former white guy in an obscene miniskirt. Greatness.

I love the look of naked hunger on Flynt/Wu's face as he stares at the microphone.

EDIT: My bad. This still image shows up in a Google search for "Altconf 2016" and "Wu" but it's actually from 2014. Still, I wonder why others haven't used the one-mic system when Flynt/Wu is around. It appears to be very effective and seems to be irritating the shit out of him.
Everybody there looks either pissed off or bored.
The guy right next to John looks really uncomfortable, cringing his face and crossing his arms.
John your dead dog doesn't know how to use LinkedIn

No, basically everybody you've worked with hates your guts.
I bet the only reason Amanda's still with you is because of some contract.

"I'm a software engineer"
I can't wait until he shouts "STOP MANSPLAININGGGGGUHH!!!1" when some dude instructs him.
If he actually succeeds in doing this shit, it's going to be hilarious when he takes all the credit for it and uses it to push the fact that he's a TRUE and HONEST female software engineer game developer engineer gam3r gurrl.

I'm also fucking reeling due to the fact that John can't do a simple fucking google search to find that he can buy pre-made Occulus ready PCs.
Such a TRUE and HONEST female software engineer game developer engineer gam3r gurrl.

It's easy to spot which conferences are for worthless hacks because they get suckered in by treating Brianna Wu as an actual software engineer. Do any of these conferences actually run a 2 minute background check and realize that her games are vaporware? How do you justify giving a panel spot to someone who created a game that you can't actually play?

"I'm a software engineer so I'm sure I can figure this out."

How about "I'm over the age of 13 so I'm sure I can figure out this rudimentary task."

A lot of these lower tier conferences charge a speakers fee. A real conference pays you to attend and normally you get a room and travel expenses included. Johnny is lucky to get his admission ticket covered by the conference most times.

Johnny is willing to pay for a spot, as well as his own travel and hotel expenses, at the low attendance events simple because it allows him to protect the appearance of a successful IT speaker person.

His ego is easily worth the $1000 bucks.

Speaking of shock, it will be pretty amusing if John wrecked his expensive components because he forgot to ground himself. Then he'll go to twitter asking why his brand new parts don't work.

Either that or he'd use children's paste glue instead of thermal paste. "I'm an engineer, Frank! I know what I'm doing!"
