How did Wu apply an English translation patch to the cartridge of a game that was never released outside of Japan? Otherwise he'd have had to download a ROM to play it and that'd be piracy.

It's possible if you are willing to invest in a ROM dumper and custom flash cart imitations of actual game cartridges. Given what we know, I don't doubt Flynt wouldn't piss away money on that just for gamer cred.

Reproduction carts.

Reproduction carts.
Pretty sure those are illegal too. From what I've heard Nintendo take legal action against sellers of reproduction NES/SNES carts.

I somehow doubt that too. I would guess it more likely that Wu just pulled some suitably obscure game out of his ass to fawn over. The faster, cheaper route to easy gamer cred.

Well, it's possible he bought a blank cartridge and a custom game sticker to make it look legit and then posted emulator screenshots, so both could be correct.

Doesn't matter if it's legal or not. If you ever accuse her of it she will adamantly deny it despite evidence, and accuse you of being a goobergrapeape in the same breath. It's how she handles all her fuck ups.

She was showing off her "reproduction" cart collection like a month or so ago. She even went off on one of her twitter followers for questioning the ethics of them.

Honestly, if Wu wanted to avoid looking like a dodgy asshole, he could have followed these steps:

1. Buy original game in original language.
2. Use ROM dumper to dump that game to computer.
3. Apply translation patch and play on emulator.
4. Show off original game (it would have Japanese characters on the sticker) and emulator screenshots, and admit dumping their own ROM to play on an emulator, which is perfectly legal.

That is perfectly legal, at least under US law, and he wouldn't look like a dodgy pirate in the process.

This is a bad idea. We need Briannas failure to be legit. Any review she can blame on trolls is a plus for her. Theres plenty of bad stuff about this game to use as ammo without having to play the tranny card. Help me out here @Jaimas

People, listen to Sierra on this.

The way to maximize damage (and by proxy, generated salt for us to savor) is to punch Wu's game with legitimate criticism.

Look at the Lolcow Wiki review of the game. We didn't go after the low-hanging fruit, and even in being as kind to the game as possible, we were able to fucking savage it. That pisses Bribri off, because she can't fucking duck behind the "OMG MISOGYNITIC GAMERGATE TERROR CELL" defense.

Keep the reviews simple and to the point. Praise the few good things the game has (the voice-work is great but the script gives the VAs nothing to work with), and punch the weak-points as hard as you can. Nothing enrages Brianna Wu quite like legitimate criticism and if you deny her the ability to claim you're a GG-supporting terrorist, you weaken her position.

Be smart, FFS.

Never took Wu to be a Front Mission fan. Which Hipster made it cool for them?

Neither. She plays Gun Hazard, which is far weaker than the usual politically-charged storylines the FM games usually feature. Hell, most of the protagonists of the series wind up dead or wishing they were within short order, and what became of Royd (FM1's protagonist) after the first game is fucking terrifying.

After being systemically betrayed by everything he had ever placed faith in and enduring the discovery of what happened to his fiance, just for good measure, Royd goes walkabout after trying to lose himself in drugs and alcohol, unable to leave what happened to him behind. Some time later he gets wrapped up in an anti-government terrorist group Grimnir, and you have to put him down like a rabid dog in Front Mission 2.
