Fun fact: The Kickstarter page has not been updated about the EMINENT release. One would think that the people that blew money up your poop chute would be the first to know, but maybe appearing prolific on twitter is more important than informing the people that gave you money.

Why does Wu need to make a profit, though? How much of the funding required for Rev60 came from Wu's own pocket?
They spent 400K, a lot of it from Frank and Amanda, and allegedly some unnamed angel investors.

Wu needs to make an attempt at making up the game's costs in order to have marital bliss.

She also believes she is the world's next great video game creator, and she needs successes under her belly belt to achieve that.

"Team worried about Gamergate yadda yadda"

People really give a damn John

From Brianna's pocket? Zero.

From Frank's pocket? Somewhere around $400,000. Frank put his savings into this misadventure and, while he has a well-paying career, it's stupid to think that he wouldn't want to see at least some of it come back his way. Part of the reason this even started as a mobile game was because Frank and Brianna saw the mobile gaming bubble and believed it could be an easy cashgrab.

From others (the Kickstarter backers)? Around $12,000. No, they don't care if the game ever turns a profit but I imagine they will care if the game they waited three years for doesn't even work. One thing I think people forget is that the Kickstarter campaign started before Wu's foray into GamerGate and so quite a few of her backers are real people who expect a finished product. This is the group that I forsee really raining hell on Wu as their increased pressure on her has gotten us to this point.

DEADLINE #9 IS DEAD! LONG LIVE DEADLINE #10!

next week!.png

Releasing next week! PREPARE YOUR ANUSES.

A developer who actually gave a shit would have a final build done a month before release, and a release date announced at least a month before that to give time for promotion and let the any interested press sink their teeth in to it.

I guess Wu has given up on the idea of getting any press except from the handful of "backchannel" friends who'll do puff pieces.

Had he shoved this shit out the door a year ago, he COULD have had some actual press coverage, but he pissed away most of his good will even with most SJW rags, and most of the big names that sucked him off awhile back like Kotaku are tainted and have their own problems, so that would backfire.

Two of which were, for sure, made on a fraction of Rev60's budget but making millions more.

I know we talk about it a lot, but goddamn it's embarrassing that so much was spent on making a four hour game for an iPhone. And the funniest/stupidest part of it all is that Brianna Wu still believes that spending so much to create so little was a positive.

Isn't it usually a thing for big AAA titles and much awaited indie games to have the steam page set up way, way in advance with screenshots and gameplay footage/trailers and a working Steam community forum?

Isn't Revolution 60 an AAA studio product?

Of course. Even if you're not taking pre-orders for ideological reasons, you'd still get on Steam's "coming soon" list by having a planned release date and a store page up decently ahead of time. Press would have something to link to when putting out reviews of your game, and casual visitors could watch your trailer and possibly add it to their wish list.

All this would be on checklist of minimum effort marketing for even a novice developer. Unfortunately Wu is, as previously mentioned, a fuckup.

Just games? DLC does it too. Paradox sets up the store pages for their Crusader Kings II DLC months in advance with trailers, screenshots, and gameplay descriptions/changes. Even ports (much like Wu's game) get it. The Final Fantasy IX store page was set up ages before that game was officially released on Steam. Why, it's almost like Brianna wanted Revolution 60 to kind of quietly go away or not be discussed in an open, non-Wu controlled forum.

Wu's totally not imaginary staff really dropped the ball on this one.
