My guess is that this is the silent protest from her Kickstarter buddies. They saw the deadline tweet, got hopeful, then when she completely ignored it they got mad. They can't do anything like openly call her out on this, because she'll just block them/set Twitter mobs on them/attempt to get them fired. So time to take away the pitybux instead.

It'd probably have to be something like a class action to justify even bringing it to court, otherwise it would just be a small claim. The difficult thing to prove is that there was actual fraud and not just a breach of contract. The problem with that is you don't generally get your attorney's fees paid in a breach of contract case, while consumer fraud statutes often have provisions like double/triple damages and fee shifting.
There's also differences between Kickstarter type things, where you're actually claiming to be doing something specific, and a Patreon, which is supposedly no strings, although you have fraudulent aspects there like the imaginary "Natalie" and repeated claims John isn't just squandering this money himself, even though he obviously is.

I apologize this is going to sound borderline MRA, but it's really rich to have Wu spout off about stuff like this since her entire public existence- at least according to popular media- is based solely upon being a woman. If a dude said he was harassed by a bunch of neckbeards, the media would just laugh and return to staring at Kim Kardashian's ass implants.
The sad fact is that I don't believe women should be treated any less equally than a man provided they are able to do the job given to them. Wu instead has given into the notion, judging by her actions, that because she is a woman she should be given privileges. If a man attempts to explain anything, even in the most benign sense, it is immediately shot down and called "mansplaining." If a panel is all guys, they should be ashamed of themselves. can go on, but I'll keep it concise.
So yeah, playing the woman card? Yeah, a brusque way of putting it, but no better way than what I see Wu doing on a daily basis.
People like to place certain certain words and phrases into "sanctity boxes" - my term, anyway. They like to believe if they hold certain terms in a high or low regard that enables them power. For exmaple, how many of you ever heard "Don't use The Lord's name in vain?" Like that. Wu is one of these bizarrely prudish people who doesn't like people openly using the word "vagina" because it makes it apparent that it is just a word and not a word of any more power than "hand" or "eyeball." It limits the delusion and that limits Wu's personal privileges.
