Frank has known
Cory Doctorow for many years through the scifi/Hugo scene, even doing a
book cover for him.
One of John's first mentions on a major website was by Doctorow on his site
Boing Boing back in 2009, less than a year after John and Frank got hitched. Since then, Boing Boing has repeatedly provided a platform for John's core crap arguments about women, tech, gaming, and harassment - even many times
before Frank and John's viral rape and death threat hoax.
Glenn Fleishman began writing for Boing Boing in March 2010.
Marco Arment, the original CTO of Tumblr, left that company in September 2010 to concentrate on developing Instapaper. A couple months after that, Marco started a podcast called "Build and Analyze" with Dan Benjamin, who founded
5by5 studios in 2009. "Build and Analyze" ran through December 2012.
A couple years after leaving Tumblr, Marco started
"The Magazine", hiring
Glenn Fleishman to be its editor very soon after the first issue. By the following spring,
Marco sold the publication to Glenn. [Side note: notice that
John's Twitter buddies Guy English and Jason Snell wrote pieces for the first issue of "The Magazine".]
John's first podcast of
Isometric - co-hosted with Maddy, Steve, and Georgia - was in May 2014 on the aforementioned 5by5 network.
John discussed a little bit of this history and the players when Isometric moved to Relay FM last year.
Shorter version: Frank connected John with Doctorow then connected with Fleishman via Doctorow. John connected with Arment via Fleishman, and then connected with Benjamin via Arment.
It's amazing what a bunch of privileged white guys and
"the whitest yellow dude you'll ever meet" can do when they get together. Where would trannies, women, and/or POCs be without the naked nepotism of all these rich, white tech bros to "save" them?
